CHIMP TREKKING IN KIBALE NATIONAL PARK, UGANDA

SAFARI OVERVIEW

Kibale National Park is top chimpanzee tracking destination in the World. It contains one of the loveliest and most varied tracts of tropical forest in Uganda. The park is home to a total of 70 mammal species, most famously 13 species of primate including the chimpanzee. Kibale National Park also contains over 375 species of birds. An estimated 500 elephants are present, along with buffalos, leopards, warthogs, bush pigs, golden cats and duikers as well as a colorful variety of over 250 species of butterflies.

Kibale National Forest has one of the highest diversity and concentration of primates in Africa. It is home to other primates that include the red colobus monkey considered Endangered and the rare L’Hoest’s monkey that are considered Vulnerable. The park is also home to over 325 species of birds, 4 wild fellids, 13 species of primates, a total of at least 70 other species of mammals, and over 250 tree species.

You can choose between the half day tracking experience – or a full day chimp habituation adventure. As you search for Kibale’s resident chimpanzees, keep an eye out for other primates such as grey-cheeked mangabeys along with l’Hoest’s, red colobus, red-tailed and blue monkeys. Our expert guide will share the secrets of the forest’s flora and fauna, ensuring that the trail is both informative and enjoyable.

DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

Day One: Arrival

Our Driver and Staff (with Mushra Travel Agency Identification), will meet you at Entebbe Airport and drive you to your hotel. You will have time to relax and prepare for the trip to Kibale Forest National Park which starts at 1:00pm the next day. We will drive from Entebbe to Kibale National Park and check in to your lodge, in time for dinner. (First Night at Central Inn Hotel, Entebbe. – Breakfast) and Accommodation at Kibale Forest Camp (Full-board – Lodging, Dinner, Breakfast)

Day Two: Chimpanzee Trekking

After Breakfast, we will go for a full day chimp habituation adventure. Our experienced staff and game rangers will guide you in the search for chimpanzees. The Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale isn’t about chimps alone, keep an eye out for other primates such as grey-cheeked mangabeys along with l’Hoest’s, red colobus, red-tailed and blue monkeys. The guides will share the secrets of the forest’s flora and fauna, ensuring that the trail is both informative and enjoyable. You will return to your lodge in the late afternoon for dinner and relax on the camp fire to chat the evening away. Accommodation at Kibale Forest Camp (Full-board – Lodging, Dinner, Lunch, Breakfast)

Day Three: Birding and community walks

After breakfast, proceed to bird the vicinity of Kanyanchu look out for the Green-breasted Pitta and other species like Yellow-billed Barbet, African Emerald Cuckoo, Black-billed Turaco, Narina Trogon, Blue-shouldered Robin-chat, Sabine’s Spinetail, Chestnut Wattle eye and Narrow-tailed Starling among others. Primates like Red Colobus, Black and white Colobus, Grey-cheeked Mangabey, Olive Baboon, Red-tailed Monkey, L’Hoest’s Monkey among others. Dinner and overnight as before. Spend the night in a lodge in Budongo Forest.

After lunch, you will visit the Bigodi Women’s Group will take you on a fascinating boardwalk trail through the papyrus swamp of the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. Finish this action-packed day with a cultural performance or a sunset drink at a nearby lodge.

Day Four: Birding and Nocturnal Walks

After breakfast, you will proceed to bird the vicinity of Kanyanchu look out for the Green-breasted Pitta and other species like Yellow-billed Barbet, African Emerald Cuckoo, Black-billed Turaco, Narina Trogon, Blue-shouldered Robin-chat, Sabine’s Spinetail, Chestnut Wattle eye and Narrow-tailed Starling among others. Nocturnal Forest Walk in Kibale Forest National Park start between 7:00 and 7:00pm – usually this is after dinner. After a brief orientation from Game Rangers, you will set off onto the trail into the jungle. Please carry a water bottle, boots, long trousers, heavy sock, a jacket to protect you against insect bites and scratches, a long-sleeved shirt, a hat and an insect repellent. Look out for Pottos, Bush Babies, Tree Hyrax, birds of the night like Nightjar, Owls and predators such as the Civet. Accommodation at Kibale Forest Camp (Full-board – Lodging, Dinner, Lunch, Breakfast)

Day Five: Continue the Adventure / Flight

After breakfast, you will transfer to the next destination or drive back to Entebbe through Kampala for your flight.

GORILLA TREKKING IN BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK, UGANDA

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is inhabited by a population of about 340 individuals of Mountain Gorillas, which makes up almost half of all the mountain gorillas remaining in the world. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is also a birding paradise, home to over 348 bird species. This area is one of Uganda’s best bird watching destinations.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is an active expedition with moderate to strenuous hikes. Participants must be at least 15 years old, and should be physically fit. While tracking Gorillas, guests will trek through thick jungle at elevations ranging up to 10,000 feet, for as many as four to eight hours, depending on the location of the primates. Treks can be arduous; and the terrain can be steep, uneven, wet, and muddy. This trip is not suitable for those who suffer from a cardiac, respiratory, or circulatory disorder or a disability that limits mobility.

DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

Day One: Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After an early breakfast, we will head to western Uganda for the birding experience in Africa’s No. 1 birding Spot. We stop at the Equator to take photographs of the crossing and enjoy some snacks. We will continue to Mbarara for lunch and coffee in Kabale and then proceed to Bwindi. Overnight at Buhoma Community Rest Camp (Full-board – Lodging, Dinner, Lunch, Breakfast)

Day Two: Gorilla Trekking

After an early breakfast, we will head to the Headquarters of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park for an orientation plus meeting the guides as well as separation into the groups basing on which gorilla group you are to be tracking.

From there you will set off for your thrilling experience of the Gorillas. Hiking within this mysterious and wonderful forest offers quite a lot to see as you make your way to see the Mountain Gorillas. Look out for additional primates, butterflies, mammals and birds. The trekking will entail thorough climbing before you come face to face with the Mountain Gorillas, watching them only a few meters away. You will see the baby with the mothers, the gorillas partaking their every day routine just right in front of you. Because of tourists like you, we have worked with communities to protect the Gorillas. Our Fair Tourism model supports communities around Buhoma to protect the Gorillas. You will personally see how they are thriving within the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

After trekking, you will have a self-guided birding evening around the premises. Look out for the Black Bee-Eater, Dusky Tit, Brown-capped Warbler, the Yellow-billed and Yellow-spotted Barbets, the African and Black-and-white Shryke-Flycatcher, Common Stonechat, Brown-throated and Chestnut Wattle-eyes, a number of Apalis Species, Equatorial Akalat, Slaty Flycatcher, White-bellied Robin-Chat, the Olive-green and Grey-backed Camaropteras,White-chinned Prinnia, Green Hylia, Short-tailed Warbler, White-tailed Anti-thrush, Cape Wagtail, Grey-capped Warbler, Grauer’s Warbler, Grauer’s Rush Warbler, White-browed Crombec, the list is long. Overnight at Buhoma community Rest camp (Full-board – Lodging, Dinner, Lunch, Breakfast)

Day Three: End of Gorilla Trekking Safari

After breakfast, Check-out and head back to the capital Kampala, with stops in Mbarara for a delicious lunch and then proceed to Kampala or Entebbe bringing this 3 Day Gorilla Trekking Adventure in Uganda to a close. Airport drop-off can be arranged free of charge, if you are flying out on the last day of the safari. If you have other activities planned, please let us know and we will send you a driver for Airport drop-off at a later date. (Inc: Breakfast / Lunch )

WHAT TO EXPECT

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is best known for its primate populations, being home to about half the world’s mountain gorillas, at over 340 endangered gorillas. The ecosystem is exceptionally high in biodiversity, with rich flora and fauna species. This why every traveler wants to visit Bwindi on their African Safari.

Uganda is well known for its culture within the East African countries, the history of the country’s kingdoms is now making its own impact on the current tourism industry. This Safari takes you to Kampala top tourist destinations that include Bahai temple which is the only temple in Africa of the Bahai faith, the Uganda Marty’s shrine, a tour of Kampala’s popular Nakasero food Market and Monuments.

DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

Day One: Kampala / Entebbe to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – Uganda

We will leave Kampala at 7:00am. Our team will be pick you up from your hotel or preferred location in Kampala and we will drive west toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. We will make our first stop at the Equator crossing. It’s a wonderful spot to take pictures and have a cup of coffee. We will then proceed to Mbarara for lunch en route to Bwindi. We will have lunch at Acacia Hotel in Mbarara. It’s great opportunity to try out western Uganda’s Matooke (plantain-type bananas) and roasted goat meat. (if not vegetarian) After lunch, we will drive through the virgin rolling hills of Ankole -Kigezi to the home of the infamous Mountain Gorillas, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, arriving at around 6 pm. Overnight at Buhoma Haven lodge (Inc. Accommodation, Breakfast , Lunch and Dinner).

Day Three: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

You will have an early breakfast and then travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park entering it through the Ishasha sector renowned for the tree climbing lions. You will have a game drive along the way during which you will see Lions, various Antelope species, Elephants, zebras, Hyenas, Leopards and Buffaloes. In the afternoon, we will go for a two hour boat cruise down the Kazinga Channel that connects Lakes George and Edward. The cruise takes you through the highest population of Hippos and you will see a profusion of animals on the water shores. This launch cruise rewards you with a great opportunity to take photos, watch birds and see the water animals. Overnight at Simba Safari Lodge (Inc: Accommodation, Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)

Day Four: Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast you will go on an early morning Game Drive on the Kasenyi Track, viewing a large fishing area. The Game Drive will take 2-4 hours. We will also tour Kikorongo, where you will encounter both wet and dry Crater Lakes. We will have another game drive in the afternoon to see Lions, Elephants, Topis, Leopards, Bush bucks, Cape Buffaloes, Defassa Waterbucks, Giant Forest Hogs, Uganda Kobs, among others. Overnight at Simba Safari Lodge (Inc: Accommodation, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day Five: More Game Viewing, Birding and Travel to Kampala

We will go another game drive that will enable you to see wildlife in their natural setting for example buffalo, elephants and other animals that dwell in the grassland thickets of the Northern Kazinga. If we lucky, we might have a rare chance to spot lions prey on other game. Queen Elizabeth National Park is a wonderful birding destination. We will do a round of birding to conclude the safari. A number of bird species will also be seen along including the rare shoe bill. We will drive back to Kampala with a stopover for lunch in Mbarara town and proceed to Kampala arriving late afternoon. Drop you off at your hotel in Kampala. Overnight at Aponye (Inc: Accommodation , Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day Six: Kampala City Tour

After breakfast, start with the Uganda museum, Bahai temple which is the only temple in Africa of the Bahai faith. We will have a Lunch break and then visit the Uganda Marty’s shrine at Namugongo. This is a place where many Christians were burnt to death because of their faith. We take a quick tour of downtown Kampala and visiting the popular Nakasero food Market and the Independence Monuments. Depending on the time of your flight, we will drive to Entebbe Airport for a quick tour of at Bemba cave in Ziika ecotourism forest site, Zamugula site and Muzinga square site. Our drive and tour guide will drive to the airport in time for your flight (Inc:, Breakfast & Lunch)

Bhutan Birding in Himalayas

BHUTAN BIRDING IN HIMALAYAS

Bhutan is a paradise for bird lovers and ornithologists. Over 670 species of birds have been recorded and many more are yet to be discovered. Around 50 species of the known birds are winter migrants. These include ducks, waders, birds of prey, thrushes, finches and buntings.

The partial migrants to Bhutan include cuckoos, swifts, bee-eaters, warblers and flycatchers. The country harbors more than 16 species of vulnerable birds. They are the Pallas’s Fish Eagle, White bellied Heron, Satyr Tragopan, Gray-bellied Tragopan, Ward’s Trogon, Blyth’s King Fisher, Yellow-rumped Honey Guide, Rufous Throated Wren Babbler, Chestnut-breasted Partridge, Blyth’s Trogon, Wood Snipe, Dark-rumped Swift, Rufous-necked Hornbill, Gray-crowned Prinia and the Beautiful Nuthatch all of which breed in Bhutan.

Bhutan is home to many species of birds that are in danger of extinction, including the Imperial Heron, which is one of the fifty rarest birds in the world and the rare Black-Necked Crane, which breeds in Tibet and then migrates over the Himalayas to Bhutan during the winter months. The Cranes can be spotted in Phobjikha Valley in Western Bhutan, Bumthang in Central Bhutan and in Bomdeling in Eastern Bhutan. They migrate to these winter roosting sites in the months of September and October and fly back to Tibet between February and March.
