You will be picked from your hotel/Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Seremara driver guide and transfer to Wilson Airport for a 45-minute flight over the Rift Valley to Olkiombo Airstrip. You will be met by Basecamp’s Masai guide who will transfer you to the camp. Hop on one of the tailor-made 4×4 Safari Land Cruisers for a safari game drive en-route to Basecamp Masai Mara. Masai Mara Game Reserve is one of the most well-known parks in Africa. Almost all the iconic wildlife animals can be viewed here. This is also where the famous wildebeest and zebra migration from Serengeti to Masai Mara takes place between July and October. Along the way, you will have your first encounter with the wildlife Masai Mara has to offer. Look out for the ‘big five’ which include a lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino. You will arrive at Basecamp for lunch. Set on the bank of the Talek River Basecamp Masai Mara location is spectacular, with the great Mara plains surrounding the camp and the river in front of each tent. After lunch, you will settle into your tents. Later in the afternoon, you will join your Masai guide for a camp walk along the Talek river path. Your guide will show you some of the operational elements that have made Basecamp one of the leading pioneers in the Responsible Tourism Industry. At around 4pm, stroll across the private suspension bridge to meet your Maasai Guide for your afternoon safari game drive. While you venture out you have a chance to see many animals and beautiful landscape of the Masai Mara. As the sun sets, you will enjoy a classic Basecamp Sundowner under an acacia tree before returning to the lodge for dinner. As you rest around the fireplace, listen to your Maasai Guide tell stories about their culture as you reflect on the experiences of the day.

Maasai Mara Game Reserve is a great wildlife destination located on the floor of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. It is famous for its exceptional wildlife that includes high destines of lion’s prides, leopards, cheetah and the great annual migration of wildebeest, zebras, and Thomson’s gazelles, from the Serengeti between July and October.

This uniquely situated luxury camp on the banks of the Talek River overlooks the mottled plains of the Maasai Mara, where vast herds of wildlife co-exist with the colourful Maasai people between June and October the Maasai Mara plays host to one of the most spectacular wildlife shows on earth the great annual migration of over a million wildebeest and zebra as they enter the Mara ecosystem from Serengeti in neighbouring Tanzania

The camp has only 17 spacious and luxurious Double Riverside Tents, including one Family Riverside Tent, perfect for families traveling with children.  The tents are built along the banks of the Talek River, the natural border to the Masai Mara National Reserve. The dense riverbed foliage allows for maximum privacy and comfort, without compromising the view of the Masai Mara National Reserve. With more than 286 identified bird species, you are certain to wake to a symphony of birdsong while staying at Basecamp Masai Mara.

Game drives offer the unforgettable opportunity to enjoy the diversity of animals and birds living permanently in the Maasai Mara, as well as many migratory species. Guests can also learn more about the Maasai people, proud pastoralists and warriors, many of whom still retain their traditional nomadic lifestyle.

Wake up early for a cup of coffee followed by a morning safari game drive. Enjoy the fresh breeze at the break of dawn and marvel as the bush comes to life in the early morning hours. Throughout the year, Masai Mara is a place of natural drama, colour and life. Enjoy watching Masai Mara wildlife as well as a variety of birds in their natural habitat. See the wildebeest in their thousands, the beautiful zebras, and the graceful giraffes. You will have a brief stopover for a picnic breakfast overlooking the Mara Plains before proceeding on with your game drive. Head back to camp. Visit the Basecamp Masai Brand workshop to see how the Masai women make different beaded items. You have a chance to buy souvenirs as a support initiative for the women. After, head off to the camp’s tree plantation area which has become home to over 285 species of birds. Culminate your camp walk with an optional tree planting session. After lunch, take a stroll to Talek Center together with your Masai guide to see some of the community projects that Basecamp proudly partner with the Masai community to help in community development. Meet the local Maasai people and discover more about their way of life. Return to camp late in the afternoon to join your Masai guide for an evening game drive. In the evening the Mara provides an opportunity to see lions, leopards, and other wild cats, sated for their night hunts. Return to camp in time for dinner. Unwind and be mesmerized by the dazzling stars.

Day 3: Masai Mara-Nairobi

Early morning game drive before returning to the camp for breakfast.

After breakfast, pack your personal belongings, bid your Maasai host goodbye and check out to transfer to the airstrip with a game drive en-route. Arrive Nairobi in the early afternoon for your International flight connection or back to your hotel marking the end of your Kenyan Holiday with us.
