9 DAYS 8 NIGHTS SAMBURU GAME RESERVE, LAKE TURKANA, SAROVA SHABA, ABERDARES NATIONAL PARK, LAKE NAIVASHA AND MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE
Written By CASOTRAVEL
DAY 1: NAIROBI – SAMBURU GAME RESERVE
Early morning you will be met by Casolodge Travel & Safaris Ltd representative at the Airport/ Residence for a small briefing before embarking on your journey to Samburu, Samburu is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannahs watered by the lovely Ewaso Nyiro River. It is also one of Kenya’s most protected areas and home to species only found north of the equator, from the reticulated giraffe to Grevy’s zebras and Beisa Oryx. A luxurious hostelry set beneath a canopy of acacia trees along the banks of the river. Back to the Camp.
Dinner and Overnight at Ashnil Samburu or similar on Full Board.
DAY 2: SAMBURU GAME RESERVE – LAKE TURKANA
Break early in the morning for Lake Turkana. The rough road gets worse as we descend across ancient lava flows towards the Jade Sea and the Oasis Loiyangalani lying between the lake and Mt. Kulal. Heading straight to our Cradle tented camp for lunch.
Lake Turkana formerly known as Lake Rudolf, is a lake in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya, with its far northern end crossing into Ethiopia. It is the world’s largest permanent desert lake and the world’s largest alkaline lake. By volume it is the world’s fourth largest salt lake after the Caspian Sea, Issyk-Kul Lake and the (shrinking) Aral Sea, and among all lakes it ranks twentieth. The water is potable but not palatable. It supports a rich lacustrine wildlife. The climate is hot and very dry.
Dinner and Overnight at the Cradle Tented camp
DAY 3: LAKE TURKANA FULL DAY
Spend the day relaxing and bathing only interrupted by a short boat excursion to visit the surrounding areas where crocodiles and birds may be spotted. In addition, we visit Loiyangalani and the community settled there while in the evening we may visit one of the Turkana Manyattas for traditional dances under a star studded sky at an extra cost.
On-shore and off-shore winds can be extremely strong as the lake warms and cools more slowly than the land. Sudden, violent storms are frequent. Three rivers (the Omo, Turkwel and Kerio) flow into the lake, but lacking outflow its only water loss is by evaporation. Lake volume and dimensions are variable. For example, its level fell by 10 meters between 1975 and 1993.
Due to temperature, aridity and geographic inaccessibility, the lake retains its wild character. Nile crocodiles are found in great abundance on the flats. The rocky shores are home to scorpions and carpet vipers. Although the lake and its environs have been popular for expeditions of every sort under the tutelage of guides, rangers and experienced persons, they certainly must be considered hazardous for unguided tourists.
Dinner and Overnight at the Cradle Tented camp.
DAY 4: LAKE TURKANA – SAROVA SHABA
Our destination this day is Sarova Shaba Game Lodge is located in a natural oasis in the heart of the Shaba Game Reserve just east of Samburu, or one can say, in the “Born Free Country” that Joy and George Adamson called home for many years.
It is set along the bank of the Ewaso Nyiro River laid out around the natural springs that flow into the river. The Lodge has a virtual mini forest of indigenous trees, a fish pond and a large free form swimming pool.
Dinner and Overnight at Sarova Shaba Lodge.
DAY5: SAROVA SHABA – ABERDARE NATIONAL PARK
Check out of the camp early in the morning our destination today is Aberdare National Park. We travel overland south from Samburu to The Aberdare Country Club, nestled on the slopes of Mweiga Hill. After lunch, set off for the Ark tree lodge, located in the forest on mountain slopes of the Aberdare Mountains at 7,000 feet. This outstanding lodge offers high altitude game viewing, including animals that are rarely encountered elsewhere: giant forest hog, bush pig, tree hyrax, large spotted genet, and the elusive bongo. Wildlife can be observed from different levels and from outside where you can see, hear and smell everything and inside where you can sit with a cup of tea and stay warm and cozy. A herd of Elephants might be just feet away and if you are lucky, a Leopard or large male Lion might put in an appearance.
Dinner and Overnight at the The Ark on Full Board

DAY 8: MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE
Spend one more exciting day with unlimited game drives exploring the Mara, home to the proud and traditional Maasai tribe. We can arrange a visit to a local Maasai Village if you like. (@ an extra cost) The Mara is more than just the most popular wildlife park in the country; in many cases it is the reason why people come to visit Kenya. This is a classic African savanna, and the sheer density of wildlife is amazing. Gazelle, wildebeest and zebra graze in large numbers and where prey is found so are predators. Watered by the Mara River and its tributary the Talek, the park here compromises 1510 sq kilometres of open grassland tucked away in the south west corner of the country. In the Mara you will see an astonishing amount of wild life, including the big cats, where lions are found in large prides everywhere and it is not uncommon to see them hunting. Cheetahs and leopards are harder to spot, but are still fairly common. Elephants, buffaloes, zebras and hippos also exist in large numbers.
