6 Days Safari Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Manyara & Arusha National Park

Written By Jairos Adventures

The Complete Northern Circuit Safari

The concept of ‘safari’ summons ideas of exploration, vast plains of the savannah and wild animals. The Complete Northern Circuit Safari captures the magic of Africa by combining brilliant landscapes with spectacular wildlife. Giant is the word that best represents the Tarangire National Park from the numerous herds of African elephants to the colossal termite mounds and the ancient baobab trees. The Lake Manyara National Park was blessed with phenomenal biodiversity of habitat and wildlife and Arusha National Park is home to the infamous Mount Meru. We have two of Africa’s Seven Natural Wonders – the lush caldera that contains the Ngorongoro Crater and the ultimate safari destination, the Serengeti National Park. The national parks and conservation areas of the Northern Circuit Safari will surpass every expectation that you have set for this trip.

Day 1: Arusha to Arusha National Park

We will commence the Northern Circuit Safari by traveling to Arusha National Park. The game drive will travel along the shores of Lake Momella and through the bronzed bush where the Ngurduto Crater Buffaloes, waterbucks, giraffes, warthogs, zebras and Gazelle reside throughout the year. The elusive leopards and elephants tend to be shy at Arusha but there is a chance of spotting them. Renowned for flawless memories, the Northern Circuit Safari offers more than the exquisite game drives. Education and exploration are on the agenda, we will set out on foot. The stroll is a chance to feel the sensation Africa’s vibrant pulse through the soles of your feet and experience the bush at its core. You will be accompanied by an armed ranger for the walk. He will guide you through the luscious forest up to the crystal waterfall and lead you to the area for viewing the black and white colobus monkeys. Overnight at a camp close to Arusha National Park.

Day 2: Arusha National Park to Tarangire National Park to Mto wa Mbu

The Tarangire National Park is a scenic haven that contains a high diversity of bird species. The African elephant is the largest mammal on land and the herds in the park are a remarkable sight. Tarangire’s wildlife includes elephants, lions, giraffes, warthogs, ostriches, impalas, cheetah, mongoose, buffaloes, and baboons. We will drive to Mto wa Mbu and reach the campsite in the late afternoon.

Day 3: Mto wa Mbu to Serengeti National Park

You will continue your journey to Serengeti National Park. It contains the world’s largest concentration of wildlife including zebra, gazelles, lions, wildebeest, elephants and giraffe. The seasonal migration of the masses of wildebeest is a magnificent sight. Serengeti means ‘The Land that Moves on Forever’ and the splendid plains of savannah validate this. We will stop for lunch on a kopje (rock outcropping) and then the game drive will journey further into the park. Once the game drive is over we will proceed to the Serengeti Camp where an appetising dinner and comprehensive camping facilities will be provided.

Day 4: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater

Our early morning game drive is exhilarating. The calls of the animals are clear and scents of crisp air linger. Tracks left by predators on the prowl are untouched and could lead us to their den. The splendid rays of orange, pink and purple start to emerge on the horizon as the birds’ melodies begin to harmonize. The park is home to leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes, elands, wild dogs, crocodiles, monkeys, baboons, hippos, rhinos and various antelope. A delicious lunch will be served at the park. In the afternoon, we will depart for the Simba Campsite located at the Ngorongoro Crater rim.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater to Lake Manyara National Park

We will drive to the Ngorongoro Crater early in the morning. We will have a scrumptious picnic lunch and go on a game drive. The large amount of wildlife as well as the fauna and flora are traits that attribute towards the title of ‘Africa’s Garden of Eden’. Due to the lofty structure, few animals migrate in and out of the crater, so there is a big chance of seeing every member of ‘The Big 5’ in one day. You could also encounter vultures, zebra, hippo, wildebeest and hyenas. The alkaline lake attracts flamingos, geese and storks. Our dedicated, skilled, experienced guides will ensure that you discover all the glorious wonders of nature. We will drive to Fanaka Camp and they will provide comprehensive camping facilities.

Day 6: Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha

Extending for miles along the emerald base of the gold flecked Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara National Park, can only be described as an array of vistas. Giraffes that are so dark in coloration, they appear to be black from a distance and the tree climbing lions roam the savannah plains. Monkeys cling to the canopies of the forest whilst the hippos disguise themselves in the waters of the soda lake. With over four hundred species, Lake Manyara is a birdwatcher’s delight. Some of the wildlife includes buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, mongoose, klipspringer and bushbuck. A lovely picnic lunch will be served in the park and after the game drive. We will drive back to Arusha. Transfer to Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport can be arranged on request.

Written By Jairos Adventures

The Perfect First Safari

This seven day guided tour is a perfect first safari. You’ll explore some of the most glorious of African lands, including the magnificence of the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater as well as the lesser-known and more select of the Tanzanian parks like Arusha and Lake Manyara National Park. From day one you’ll be encompassed by nature in all her beauty – a landscape like no other, big, bold skies and a dizzying array of wildlife and flora. You’ll get up close with lions, gaze on the pink haze of flamingo shimmering on a soda lake, learn to pick out submerging hippos and spot so many species of birds that you’ll lose count. With comfortable camps, delicious food and accompanied by an experienced, friendly guide, this seven day Tanzanian safari is perfect for you if you’d like to experience the best that nature has to offer.

Day 1: Arusha to Arusha National Park

You’ll kick off your adventure early in the morning heading off to the beguiling – and often overlooked – Arusha National Park. Arusha is a jewel of Tanzania, with a diversity of plant and animal life that will take your breath away. You’ll explore the shores of tranquil Lake Momella which reflects the colors of the sky in her still waters, and you’ll experience the vibrancy of the bronzed bush where the Ngurduto Crater buffalo, waterbuck, giraffe, warthogs, zebra and gazelle busy themselves. These are resident throughout the year so you’re bound to see a different animal everywhere you turn. The elusive leopards and elephants tend to be shy at Arusha but there is a good chance of spotting them, too. You’ll also have the opportunity to set out on foot for fascinating stroll – it’s a totally different sensation feeling Africa’s vibrant pulse through the soles of your shoes. At a slower pace, you can really begin to understand Africa. You’ll get up close and personal to the flora and fauna but you’ll stay safe, accompanied by an armed ranger who will guide you through lush forest to the clear springs of a sparkling waterfall. Arusha National Park’s rangers are extremely knowledgeable, and as you walk you’ll learn so much about the biodiversity of the park – and suddenly you’ll spot a tribe of black and white colobus monkeys, famous in the park for their acrobatics. You’ll spend overnight in a camp close to the park, where you’ll relax and enjoy a delicious dinner under a sky ablaze with stars before a restful sleep.

Day 2: Arusha National Park to Tarangire National Park to Mto wa Mbu

After awakening to a still African dawn, you’ll energise yourself with a hearty breakfast before heading off to the Tarangire National Park, named after the river which flows across the park and is the only source of water for the animals during the dry season. It’s an undulating landscape, scattered with Baobab trees and high grasses and its mixture of vegetation is unique in the Northern safari lands.Tarangire is famous for its birdlife: over 550 species make their homes here including the endearing yellow-collared lovebird. The Tarangire swamps have the most breeding species in one habitat in the world. If you’re lucky, you’ll spot Omo, the white giraffe who has a genetic condition called leucism: she’s perfectly healthy, just almost-perfectly white! Of course, if you don’t see Omo you’ll see a remarkable selection of wildlife including elephant, lions, warthogs, impala, cheetah, buffalo, and baboons. After a fascinating day in this beautiful park you’ll head off to Mto wa Mbu and reach the campsite in the late afternoon. You’ll have a chance to relax, absorb the sights and finish the evening with a tasty dinner before resting up, ready for tomorrow’s adventure.

Day 3: Mto wa Mbu to Serengeti National Park

Your Serengeti adventure begins here. After a good breakfast, you’ll drive to the world famous Serengeti National Park. It’s world-famous for a reason: it’s home to the world’s largest concentration of wildlife including zebra, gazelle, lions, wildebeest, elephant and giraffe. It’s also one of the points of the seasonal migration of wildebeest, which is an awesome sight in the truest sense of the word. Serengeti means ‘The land that moves on forever’ and you can see why: the Serengeti flows with a never-ending wave of movement and a buzz of activity. You’ll stop for a well-earned break for lunch on a kopje (rock outcropping), gazing down on the incredible views while you eat and preparing yourself for your adventures deeper into the park. The evening will see you settled in Serengeti Camp, enjoying an appetizing dinner, watching a golden and pink sunset and picking out the first stars as they appear in the darkening sky. Tomorrow you’ve a whole day exploring Serengeti further.

Day 4: Serengeti National Park

You’ll start your day at the center of the majestic Serengeti. After a nourishing breakfast, you’ll continue your journey into the plains on a full-day game drive that will give you the opportunity to spot hundreds of the diverse animals that find their home within the Serengeti’s endless plains. If you’re especially excited to see animals extremely close up, you won’t forget today. You’ll likely see all the animals that make this park famous only a few feet away from you. Lions, leopard, cheetah and water buffalo up close – there are no words to describe the feeling of closeness to animals so beautiful and so wild. You’ll also have the chance to gaze on some of the park’s lesser known but equally fascinating animals including the majestic eland, the clever hyena, graceful gazelle, stolid crocodiles, and of course giraffe, zebra, monkeys, baboons, hippos, rhinos and antelope. If you visit at the right time of the year you’ll witness one of the modern natural wonders of the world – the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra. You’ll spend the night at the campsite in Seronera, well known for animal sightings.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater

You’ll be up with before dawn on an early morning game drive, the air crisp and keen and the sky brightening from indigo to golden pink and finally to hyacinth blue as we explore. The park is waking up and is alive with the calls of the animals. This is a time for tracking – predators have left their tracks overnight, and we’ll follow. As dawn breaks, the birds’ melodies begin to harmonize, the early morning air starts to warm and you’ll hear different calls as other animals start their day. You’ll add to yesterday’s collection of sightings: perhaps today you’ll see more hippos; perhaps a troop of monkeys or family of mongoose will grab your attention. After such an early start you’ll be looking forward to a delicious lunch, which will be served at the park. In the afternoon, you’ll start your Ngorongoro adventure by heading off to the Simba Campsite located at the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater itself. You’ll spend the evening enjoying a tasty dinner and relaxing under the stars.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater to Mto wa Mbu

After an early but delicious breakfast you’ll travel into the Crater, which is known as “Africa’s Garden of Eden”; its unique geological formation is at the root of its diversity. Because the crater sides are a barrier to many species migrating in or out, the crater is packed full of wildlife, and there’s an excellent chance of spotting Africa’s Big Five today. You could also encounter vultures, zebra, hippo, wildebeest and hyenas. The alkaline lake attracts geese, and storks and pink clouds of flamingo, too. Your experienced guide will ensure that you discover all the glorious wonders of nature in this unique place. You’ll rest at Fanaka Camp overnight before your journey to the wonders of Lake Manyara National Park.

Day 7: Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha

Your day starts with a healthy, filling breakfast and then you’ll head off to the Lake Manyara National Park, which extends for miles along the emerald base of the gold-flecked Rift Valley escarpment. The park is a patchwork of forest, arid scrubland and soda lake and a paradise for bird lovers. The forest is alive with the birdsong and flittering with the antics of monkeys in the forest canopy; giraffe roam the savannah and lions loll in trees, resting in the shade, while hippo families submerge themselves in the waters of the soda lake. You’ll enjoy a delicious picnic lunch served in the park before our drive back to Arusha, where your safari adventure ends. We can arrange for a transfer to Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport on request.

2 days Special Safari Tarangire National Park & Ngorongoro Crater

The Safari Flying – Visit

This two day tour to the Tarangire National Park and Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania offers a multitude of memorable experiences in a short amount of time. The Safari flying visit allows you to explore one of Africa’s seven natural wonders – the Ngorongoro Crater and the Tarangire National Park which boasts many species of vegetation and animals. Tarangire is known for their endless plains of savannah and their immense elephant herds. You will be introduced to the infamous big five and marvel at the colossal landscape of the crater in Ngorongoro.

Day One: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

We will depart for Tarangire National Park early in the morning. Once we arrive in Tarangire we will begin exploring the enormous termite mounds and the ancient baobab trees. This park is renowned for its diverse bird species and extensive population of elephants. There are regular sightings of ferocious lions, giraffe, warthogs, ostriches, impalas, cheetah, mongoose, buffaloes, and mischievous baboons. After viewing the wildlife in Tarangire we will continue our journey to our next highlight the Ngorongoro Crater. Close to Lake Manyara we put up our tents for the night. Fanaka Camp will provide comprehensive camping facilities. Dinner will be served at the campsite.

Day Two: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

We will have an early start to the day to ensure that we complete the itinerary for the day which includes a magnificent game drive with a picnic lunch in the crater. Animals infrequently migrate in and out of the crater due to its elevated walls. This means you are capable of spotting every member of the big five in one day. The big five comprises of buffalo, elephants, rhinos, lions and leopards. Some of the other wildlife that you can expect to see includes zebras, hippo, wildebeest and hyenas. The craters also feature an extensive bird population including geese, storks and vultures. You will be graced by the lovely flamingos on the Soda Lake. Our guides are highly skilled and will impress you with their ability to track down animals. This is a skill that a book cannot teach you and that a selected few can perform. Your trip will come to an end in the late afternoon and we will proceed to Arusha. Arrangements for transportation to the airport or Arusha can be made on request. We have ensured that you will be able to experience many aspects of the Tarangire National Park and Ngorongoro Crater in a short amount of time.

6 Days on the Mountain Rongai Route

Written By Jairos Adventures

The Silent One

In the northern region, the base of Kilimanjaro is covered in a dense blanket of rusty gold savannah. The spectacular landscapes of the Masaai land feature elephants, monkeys and gleaming silhouettes of the contrasting black buffalo whilst colourful flocks of East Africa’s enticing birdlife soar the blue skies. The tranquil route travels through many different climate zones. The towering peak of the mountain is drenched in brilliant light, spikes of thin emerald impale the snow in distinctive directions. The enchanted cloud forest beckons one into its pulsing heart. Steeped in plushness and opulence with coils of vaporous mist and light illuminating through fractured canopies. The long drive to the gate is crammed with beautiful sights and the 9 days Rongai Route is considered to be moderately difficult. During the wet season this route is favoured due to the fact that there is less precipitation in the area – this allows for enjoyable, drier conditions.

Day 1: Rongai Gate / Nalemoru (1950m) to Simba Camp (2650m) (First Cave Camp)

WalkingTime: 3-4hrs Distance: 6.5km Altitude Gain: 700m

In the morning we will pick you up from your hotel and drive to the Marangu Gate (approximately 1,8km). After the necessary park registration is completed, we will proceed to the Nalemoru Gate (Just under 2km). There will be an opportunity to meet your crew and a comforting hot lunch will be served at the gate. We will embark on the great journey to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Your trek starts with a twisting path that intersects with a field of maize. We will enter the ember canopies of the dense forest and walk along the moist floor. The trees above the misty paths are home to the striking blue monkey, the contrasting black and white colobus and the adorable bush baby. The trek lasts three to four hours. We will spend the night at the Simba Camp (2650m). Comprehensive camping facilities are provided.

Day 2: Simba Camp (2650m) to Kikelewa Caves (3600m) (Third Caves Camp)

Walking Time: 6-7hrs Distance: 9km Altitude Gain: 950m

In the morning the journey towards Kibo will resume. At the second ancient cave, an appetising hot lunch will be served. After lunch we will trek through a brief section of the barren dunes of the moorland and continue amid the heather vegetation zone which is studded with ethereal, enormous lobelias. There is a high possibility of viewing the breath- taking display of the Kibo peak. There is also a chance that we may spot jackals and the odd buffalo – there is no need to panic as your guide accompanies you at all times. Once we reach the Kikelewa Caves camp, you can relax for the remaining hours of the day (3600m).

Day 3: Kikelewa Caves (3600m) to Mawenzi Tarn (4330m)

Walking Time: 3-4hrs Distance: 6km Altitude Gain: 370m

Breakfast will be served at the campsite. Our day begins on a short inclined pasture that leads to an area of wilderness. A low desert environment will replace the limited vegetation. We will arrive at the Mawenzi Tarn Hut (4,330m) where a delectable hot lunch will be served. There is a possibility of small excursions for acclimatisation taking place but you are likely spend the rest of the day lounging at the campsite.

Day 4: Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo Hut (4700m)

Walking Time: 4-5hrs Distance: 9km Altitude Gain: 370m

Note that the trail progressively becomes steeper and stonier as we advance further away from the Mawenzi Tarn Hut. We will travel up a desolate site that leads to ‘The Saddle’ – an extensive lunar lava stone landscape that stretches between Mawenzi and Kibo. The journey is complimented by the marvellous views of the towering upper regions of the Kilimanjaro. Our trek will come to an end when we reach the Kibo Huts (4703m) and a steaming hot meal will be served in the afternoon. You can relax for the remainder of the day. We recommend that you try to get to bed early so you are revitalized for the climb to the summit at midnight.

Day 5: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak (5895m) to Horombo Hut (3700m)

Walking Time: 6-8hrs ascent, 5-6hrs descent Distance: 5km ascent, 15km descent Altitude Gain: 1195m, Altitude Loss: 2195m

Our voyage to the summit begins at midnight and this is the longest, most laborious day of the whole trek. The trail consists of a long, sharp slope until we pass the Hans Meyer Cave. At this point the path transforms into a twisting, single-file lane. To reach Gillman’s Point (5685m) you will use a brief path with a terrain that is laden with rocks, some climbing is necessary. This is the biggest difficulty of the ascension. Gilman’s point or the lips of Kilimanjaro indicate that Uhuru Peak (5895m) is merely a two hour hike away. Once you progress to Uhuru and behold the spectacle of the first peach hued rays of light brushing against the ice laden fields of the Mawenzi Peaks – you will comprehend the magnitude of your victory. We won’t spend too much time at Uhuru as we have to start our descent to the Kibo Hut. We will take a short, desirable break. We will proceed to the Horombo Huts and at this point you will beam with joy at the sight of your sleeping bag.

Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate (1800m)

Walking Time: 5-6hrs Distance: 20km Altitude Gain: 1195m Altitude Loss: 1900m

After breakfast we will descend to the Marangu gate. On our journey we will encounter the Mandara Hut and travel through the lush rainforest once again. When we get to the Marangu gate you will be awarded with a certificate to prove that you completed the 8 days Rongai Route. After the brief festivities with your porters conclude you will be transported back to the hotel – where a piping hot shower, soft mattress and fresh clothes await. You may even want to try one or two Kilimanjaro beers!. We will transfer you to Kilimanjaro Airport, from where you will connect your flight back home If you’ve decided to go in a safari – well, that’s a another adventure and we’ll be happy to arrange it for you!.
