Conquering Morocco

Embark on this adventure, and you will certainly bring home a box full of stories to tell, that enriches those who experienced them and those who will hear them. You will have a complete view of this beautiful country from north to south, amazing and breathtaking views, its people, their hospitality, friendship and customs.
For this, you will have to be open minded and have a positive attitude to understand and respect a culture with different mentalities and customs. This tour will unfold in several different areas, from busy cities to peaceful deserts and oasis, with very different civilizational standards from what we are used to in Europe, residing much of the fascination of this adventure in these differences.
We do not want you to be a mere tourist, but a fellow traveler that searches new experiences.
Day 1
Lisbon, Portugal – Tariff – Tangier, Morocco (700 km – highway)
The first day will be to get us to Morocco. Departure between 09:00 and 09:30 from Lisbon towards Tariff. Lunch on the way. Fast Ferry crossing to Morocco between Tariff-Tangier (or Algeciras-Tangier, depending on weather and sea conditions), followed by entry and customs formalities. Arrival at Tangier.

Day 2
Tangier – Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknès (330 km)
After breakfast we head towards Chefchaouen which is a picturesque town situated on the slopes of the Riff Mountain, stopping for lunch and having time to explore this small town. The colors and the atmosphere inside the old medina of Chefchaouen are unique. Continuing south we´ll find the archaeological complex of a Roman city, Volubilis. This was the administrative center of the Roman province of Mauritania and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Arrival at the old medina in Meknès, which is also part of UNESCO World Heritage.

Day 3
Crossing the Atlas Mountain heading south:
Meknès – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Er Rachidia – Rissani – Merzouga (485 km)
After an early breakfast, we head towards Ifrane (meaning “caves” in Berber) at 1700m height, known as the “Little Switzerland of Africa”. Continuing south towards Azrou, through the Atlas cedar forest where we might see wild monkeys. We will make use of one of the two major historic routes that connects to the “Great South”. Lunch will be on the way. We will descend to Midelt (1520m), Errachidia (1020m) and reaching Rissani known for its beautiful entrance gate, ending this long day trip arriving in the Berber village of Merzouga, where the Sahara desert begins, the Erg Chebbi. Just 20km away from the border with Algeria.

Day 4
Merzouga – Rissani – Alnif – Tinghir (200 km)
Having a good breakfast, we will visit and climb the Erg Chebbi, the most beautiful dunes of Morocco. Lunch as always will be on the way. We will depart heading northwest towards Alnif, arriving at the Tinghir oasis that lies south of the “High Atlas” and north of “Little Atlas”. Visit of the Todra Gorges (cliffs with a maximum elevation of 300m and separated by 20 to 50m) and a walk through its oasis.

Day 5
Tinghir – Vale do Dades – Kelaa M´Gouna – Ouarzazate (170 km)
Breakfast, and then depart towards the Dades Valley, continuing to Kelaat M’Gouna in the Valley of the Roses, arriving at Ouarzazate that is the Moroccan Hollywood and considered the entrance gate to the desert. Lunch on the way.

Day 6
Crossing the Atlas Mountain heading north:
Ouarzazate – Aït-Ben-Haddou – Marrakech (240 km)
Heading north, after a nice breakfast, we arrive at Aït-Ben-Haddou that is situated on the foothills of the High Atlas, being the best known Ksar worldwide, listed as being part of UNESCO World Heritage. We will ascend the second great historic route connecting the “Great South”, north bound, and crossing the Atlas passing by Tizi N’Tichka (highest point 2260m), stop to visit. Lunch on the way. The day will end arriving at the tourism capital of Morocco, Marrakech, the 3rd biggest city in Morocco. The Riad is located near the Jemaa el Fna, one of the most animated squares of the world that will challenge your senses.

Day 7
Marrakech
After breakfast, you will have a free day, entirely dedicated to explore this magnificent city, “lose yourself” in the ancient Medina, put your negotiating skills to test (hopefully you already had some practice the days before) and let yourself get conquered by the smells and colors. Also you can just simply have a rest on the terraces with an overview of the square, sipping a mint tea and watching the bustle below.

Day 8
Marrakech – Casablanca – Rabat – Tangier (580 km – highway)
As always, after breakfast we will leave this beautiful city north bound towards Casablanca, the financial city of Morocco. We will visit the Hassan II mosque that has the highest tower in the world reaching 210 meters. Lunch on the way, heading to the final destination, Tangier, passing through Rabat.

Day 9
Tangier – Tariff – Lisbon (700 km)
Early breakfast in order to catch the Fast Ferry crossing to Spain towards Tariff (or Algeciras, depending on atmospheric conditions and sea). Lunch on the way. Arrival at Lisbon and end of journey.
