ITINERARY:

DAY 01 – WELCOME TO VIETNAM – ARRIVE HANOI

Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by Explorient guide and will be transferred to your hotel in Hanoi. If time permits, we will have a brief city tour in Hanoi visit: the Old Quarter, and Hoan Kiem Lake (Restore Sword lake).

Welcome dinner in a fine restaurant hosted by Explorient Travel.

DAY 02: HANOI CITY TOUR (BREAKFAST, LUNCH)

Full day Ha Noi City Tour today will give you an overview of Hanoi and its interesting history, culture and life style of Vietnam’s capital city. Pick up at your hotel by a car/van, and dropt off to visit Ho Chi Minh Complex including Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, his House on Stilts, the One Pillar Pagoda. We then visit the Vietnam’s first university – Temple of Literature which was built since 11th century. Lunch is at nice restaurant with local cuisines. After lunch, we take a short drive to the outskirt to visit the Ethnology Museum that offers informative and well-described displays of 54 ethnic groups. Much to learn at this best museum in Indochina.

Then we go back to the city centre to visit Hoan Kiem lake and Ngoc Son temple. Enjoy one-hour cyclo tour around the bustling old quarter once known as 36 streets and guilds of its hundreds of specialty shops selling silk clothing, lacquer ware, embroidered linens, furniture, bamboo, cooking utensils, ceremonial objects and more. Finally, enjoying the famous traditional water puppet show in Thang Long Theatre. Here the daily activities of the red river delta are lively reappeared on almost a thousand year traditional art of unique made-in Vietnam water puppetry. Go back to your hotel and dinner is on your own arrangement.

DAY 03: HANOI – MAI CHAU – HANOI (BREAKFAST, LUNCH)

Surrounded by the foothills of Truong Son Range, Mai Chau valley is just 140 km to the South west of Hanoi. This charming and fertile valley has spectacular mountainous landscape dotted with house-on-stilts villages of the White Thai ethnic group that is well-known for their hospitality and friendly. Further off roads, here and there you will also find isolated H’mong communities on mountain sides. The main highlights here are the excellent trekking opportunities provided by the valley delightful trails, fields and villages. This day, we will have chance to get a glimpse into the life of Thai people in Vietnam, with a combination of cultural sightseeing and soft adventure activities.

In the morning, we leave Hanoi at 08 00 am. It takes 2 hours heading south-west to Hoa Binh town and just an hour and a half after Hoa Binh town, the road will slowly weave itself through mountains, fertile valleys and traditional villages.Arriving in picturesque Mai Chau valley which it surrounded by spectacular karsts rock formations and picturesque rice paddies nearly noon, we enjoy your local style lunch in a Thai traditional stilt house.

Free for personal exploration of this beautiful little village of White Thai minority before drive back to Hanoi. Arrive in Hanoi in the late afternoon.

DAY 04: HANOI – HA LONG (BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER)

After breakfast, we will depart for Halong Bay – designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage site since 1994. Traveling through the scenic fertile Red River Delta countryside, we get to Ha Long Bay by noon. The natural world heritage site Halong Bay is truly one of the most impressive scenery that should not be missed if someone ever come to the north. Upon arrival at Ha Long, we embark on a Chinese style junk for an exploration of the legendary Halong Bay. This exciting hours cruise passing by the evocatively shaped islets will provide us a fantastic view of the picturesque scenery blending with the sky and some 3,000 limestone islands and islets rising amazingly from the clear and emerald water. Enjoy a Sea food lunch while you cruising through the bay.

Here the limestone karsts formations are littered with beaches. You then explore the Surprising Sung Sot cave which still reserves much of the amazing original stalactites and stalagmites. By summer, there is always some chance to leisurely swim in a secluded cove of the bay. Dinner will be served on board and stay overnight on the Junk Cruise

DAY 5: HALONG BAY – HANOI – OVERNIGHT TRAIN TO HUE (BRUNCH)

Wake up in the morning to the calming sound of the waves crashing on the nearby islands. Enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning and relax. Sitting on the upper deck, you can enjoy the breath – taking beauty of the rocky Islands rising from the crystal-clear waters of the Bay. The quiet is almost eerie; in summer you can hear birds singing, even that cicadas chirping ashore and the gentle lapping of the waves against our boat, the perfect soundtrack to accompany the fresh air and gentle breeze. Our boat start cruising back and brunch buffet will be served on the way. Check out and arrive at the harbor by 11:30. You get back on our car and go back to Hanoi. Upon arrival, you can do last minute shopping or relax in a cafe with some snacks before proceeding to Hanoi railway stations for the night train to Hue.

DAY 6: HUE CITY (LUNCH, DINNER)

Reaching Hue at around 8:00 am, you will be transferred to your hotel for some refreshment. Hue with splendid tombs of the Nguyen emperors, notable pagodas and the remains of the Citadel becomes one of Vietnam’s attractions to tourists from all over the world, who like to explore the traditional cultural values of Vietnam.

We start our day with guided touring around the Imperial Citadel, visiting the Noon Gate and Forbidden City; then followed with the Antiquity Museum for some view. After delicious lunch at a local restaurant, we can drive out Hue outskirt to visit Khai Dinh Royal Tomb and Minh Mang Mausoleum. In the evening, we enjoy a nice dinner, followed by a cruise on Perfume River while Hue traditional folk music is performing.

DAY 7: HUE – HOI AN (BREAKFAST, LUNCH)

Have breakfast in hotel, Check out in the morning, we departure for Hoi An. Stop en route at Lang Co beach to have short break before crossing Haivan Pass. At the height of 500 meter above sea level Haivan pass is the highest pass in the central coast of Viet Nam. Here you can enjoy the magnificent view of the central coast. The soft adventure drive over the 23 km long pass will add more highlights for this trip.

Next, you drive pass by Da Nang city – the 4th largest city of Viet Nam. Here we pay a visit to the fascinating Cham Museum – museum of ancient Champa kingdom’s sculptures and artifacts. You then stop en route to visit famous China Beach, better known as R&R of the US army officials and soldiers during the Vietnam War. Then you visit the Marble stone carving workshop at Ngu Hanh Son handicraft village en route to charming Hoi An. Arrive at Hoian in late afternoon, check in to the hotel.

Known as Faifo to early Western traders, Hoi An was one of South East Asia’s major international ports and today it still retains that special old-world feel. Enjoy a walking tour through the Old Quarter. Hoi An is also famous for its large number of tailor shops, so if you want to have a new wardrobe made up, this is the time to do it.

DAY 8: HOIAN CITY TOUR (BREAKFAST)

Today we spend a half day for exploring Hoi An town. From the 16th to 18th centuries, Hoi An was a thriving international commercial port for Chinese, Dutch, French, Japanese, Portuguese and Arab merchants. These people came primarily to trade in the high grade silk, which is still produced in the area, as well as ceramics.

Today, Hoi An is a quaint riverside town, popular with tourists for its eclectic architecture, tailors shops, and numerous cafes. Some of the buildings in the narrow streets have remained unchanged for more than a century. We enjoy a half-day walking tour through the narrow winding streets of the Ancient Quarter visiting Chua Ong Pagoda, Chinese Assembly Halls, the 200- year old Tan Ky ancestral house and the Japanese covered Bridge.
Free at leisure in the evening.

DAY 9: HOI AN –FLIGHT TO SAIGON (BREAKFAST)

Have breakfast in hotel and free until transfer to Danang airport for flight to Saigon. Arrival Saigon, our leader and driver pick up and transfer to your hotel.

Saigon is a fast growing city, which is changing day by day and recognized by high buildings and big roads. The ongoing changes in economy have given the city a really cosmopolitan and dynamic character.

Today, we will visit the highlights of Saigon including the Central Post Office, the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Reunification Palace and the War Museum. After that, a visit to Haven Emperor Temple will be followed and you can join the religious atmosphere of the local people. Rest of the day we suggest you tour Saigon’s down town with its many gift shops and galleries.

DAY 10: CU CHI TUNNELS & CAO DAI TEMPLE (BREAKFAST, LUNCH)

In the morning we will leave Saigon for the Cu Chi tunnels, otherwise known as the “Iron Triangle zone” or “Iron Land”. The network of three level underground tunnels which stretching over 200 km was once the former stronghold of Viet Cong .

We will drive through pleasant countryside; rubber plantations and rice paddies. Before exploring the incredible underground tunnels, we will watch a short introductory video showing how the tunnel system were constructed, followed by an exploration of the maze of tunnels, some of which have been widened to allow tourist access. Also on display are various mantraps and the remains of an American tank as well as numerous bomb craters made by B52 bombers.

Next we drive to Tay Ninh near the Cambodian border to visit Cao Dai Temple and Join Cao Dai worshippers for their daily noontide ceremony where hundreds of worshipers attired in lively red, yellow blue and white, chant religious hymns. Tay Ninh is home to the unique Cao Dai sect whose patron saints include Joan of Arc, Victor Hugo and Winston Churchill to name but a few. This religion is an odd mix of Buddhist, Taoist, Confucianism and Christianity. The vast complex of the temple draws nearly three million worshipers. The main attraction here is the Great Devine Temple- a missive structure that reflects an unusual mix of Asian and European architectural elements. Amid the vibrant pinks, greens, and yellows of the decor are carvings of writhing serpents and dragons and a multitude of Devine Eyes gazing from all directions.

After lunch we go back to Saigon in the late afternoon.

DAY 11: SAIGON –MEKONG DELTA (BREAKFAST, LUNCH)

Meet our tour expert and driver at hotel lobby; depart Saigon to Mekong delta by car. Upon arrival we board a local boat and cruise along the Mekong River to observe the local fishing port, where hundreds of fishing boats anchor to unload fresh fish. We continue our exploration with a pleasant rowing trip down small canals and dense palm trees, experiencing the local villages between the islands to a small islet.

We disembark on a small island, where we take a short walk through a local village set amongst a peaceful atmosphere and fruit trees, experience how the local people make their living from fruit trees and witness the unusual yet fascinating process of coconut candy in the making.

Stroll through a local village to a family home and tantalize our taste buds with a magnificent seafood lunch prepared by the family, with a unique experience of tasting local delicacies including ‘Elephant Ear fish’ and traditional Vietnamese rice wine. A family on the island will serve us local seasonal fruits and honey tea whilst performing traditional southern music, called Tai Tu music after lunch.

We continue our journey to Vinh Long where we meet our vehicle for an hour drive and a smooth ferry ride across the Mekong, taking us to Can Tho.

DAY 12: CAN THO –SAIGON (BREAKFAST, LUNCH)

This morning we make an early rise to be captivated by Vietnam’s most legendary floating markets, ‘Cai Rang’ & Phong Dien. We board our boat and commence our journey along the Mekong River, observing ‘true life on the river’, the hustle and bustle of families carrying out their morning chores and the locals heading our way to the markets to pick up their daily supplies.

We weave in and out of the masses of floating boats selling all kinds of fascinating wares and produce and side with them to test our skills in bargaining, ‘the local way’, picking up some amazing fresh fruits to snack on whilst we sit and observe. We return to the hotel for freshen up before our return to Saigon. Overnight at your hotel.

DAY 13: SAIGON –FLIGHT TO SIEM REAP (BREAKFAST)

Have breakfast in the hotel and take the morning flight to Siem Reap. On arrival, our guide and driver will pick you from the airport for hotel in Siem Reap.

Afternoon, we visit Angkor Thom temples: Victory Gate, Bayon, Baphuon, Phimean Akas, Elephant Terrace and Leper King Terrace, Takeo and TaProhm. Lunch served at local restaurant. Afternoon enjoy the spectacular architecture and sculpture of the World Heritage at Angkor Wat and view the sunset over the Angkor complex on the top of Phnom Bakheng Mt.

DAY 14: SIEM REAP/ ANGKOR WAT (BREAKFAST)

Breakfast at hotel, Enjoy Angkor Wat Sunrise and spend the whole morning to explore the greatest fine-art of Angkor Empire at Banteay-Srey temple. Lunch at local Restaurant. Afternoon visit the grand circuit of temples: Prasat Kravan, Banteay Kdei, Sras Srong, Neak Poan, Eastern Mebon, Pre Rup and Preah Khan.

DAY 15: SIEM REAP – BANTEAY SREI (BREAKFAST)

In the morning, drive through the lovely countryside to visit Banteay Srei and Banteay Samre, which many consider Bantaey Srei to be the prettiest temple was built with pink sand stone.

In the afternoon, visit Preah Khan, Neak Pean and Ta Som temples. Also, have some time for a re-visit of Angkor Wat and wander around on your own.

DAY 16: SIEM REAP – BUS TO PHNOM PENH (BREAKFAST)

Breakfast at hotel, today at 7am, we continue a six -hour journey on a good road by public bus toward Phnom Penh. This afternoon, tour Phnom Penh, capital of the Kingdom of Cambodia. Visit the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda as well as Tuol Sleng museum, a former school turned concentration camp during Khmer Rouge era.

DAY 17: PHNOM PENH – VIENTIANE (BREAKFAST, DINNER)

Breakfast at hotel. Then you will have the day free to wander around the markets until we take the afternoon flight to Vientiane. Upon arrive Vientiane welcome by our leader and driver, transfer to hotel for check in. Rest of the day you are free to discover the city by yourself.

In the evening, following the meal you can enjoy an evening stroll along the banks of the Mekong River.

DAY 18. VIENTIANE – FULL DAY CITY TOUR – LUANG PRABANG (BREAKFAST, LUNCH)

After breakfast, we explore Vientiane capital by visiting the major sights of the capital; including the oldest Wat Sisaket with thousands of miniature Buddha statues and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. En route to Lao’s national precious heritage, the famous and sacred structure of That Luang Stupa, you will have the opportunity to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, which is well known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph.

In the afternoon we continue visiting the rest of Vientiane by foot, including Wat Ong Tue, Wat Inpeng and Wat Haisok. We pass by the major shopping area continuing to the Vientiane Central Market of Talad Sao and Talad Kouadin where various goods are displayed for sale; including fresh food, household goods, souvenirs, textiles, gold, silver and antiques. Then we transfer to the airport for your late afternoon flight to Luang Prabang. Here you will be met and transferred to your hotel, where you have the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 19. LUANG PRABANG – BIG BROTHER MOUSE – BAN KHIA LUANG – PAK OU CAVES (BREAKFAST, LUNCH)

The day starts with a visit to the Big Brother Mouse shop to select some books for the village visit. We then head north by car along route 13, before taking an unpaved road to Ban Khia Luang village. We then have ample time to visit the school, play with the kids and watch them enjoy their new books. We also take some time to explore the rest of the village, where you can see weaving and visit the local temple. We stop for lunch at the village, which can either be a western picnic lunch, or traditional Lao food such as sticky rice, lap and fresh vegetables cooked by the villagers. After lunch we say goodbye to the village and drive to Ban Khoklin, which takes us through some beautiful scenery of mountains and paddy fields. At Ban Khoklin we then board on a private boat down the Nam Ou river for 30 minutes to Pak Ou Caves, two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by pilgrims, and continue down the Mekong River back to Luang Prabang, arrive back there by late afternoon.

Day 20: LUANG PRABANG– KUANG SI WATERFALLS AND BAN CHAN (BREAKFAST, LUNCH)

Today we cross the Mekong River by boat, to the picturesque village of Ban Chan, a pottery village. We then visit the morning Phousi Market, where you will see such diverse offerings as dried buffalo skin, local tea and saltpeter among the chickens, vegetables and hill-tribe weavings. Laos is also known for its traditional crafts, and today you will visit local villages of Lao ethnic minority groups at Ban Ouay, a Hmong village, Ban Ou a Laoloum village and Ban Thapene, a Khmu village. This then takes us to the beautiful Khouangsi Waterfall where you can cool off with a refreshing swim in the pools or walk along the forest trails. We then return to Luang Prabang by late afternoon.

DAY 21: LUANG PRABANG DEPARTURE (BREAKFAST)

Depending on your flight, you may have time at leisure before transferring to the airport in time for your departing flight.
