“The Giant Crater under the Big Sky”

Ngorongoro Crater is one of the eighth wonder of the world, is set in northern Tanzania, sharing part of the Serengeti plains to the north-west and with the towns of Arusha, Moshi and Mount Kilimanjaro, to the east, and forms part of the unique Serengeti ecosystem.

A major ecological survey of the Serengeti Reserve (which then included Ngorongoro) by Dr. Bernhard Grzimek and his son in the late 1950s resulted in the establishment of Ngorongoro Conservation Area in 1959. It was named a World Heritage Site in 1979 and got the status of International Biosphere Reserve in 1981. At the moment the conservation area is administered by Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, an army of the Tanzanian government, and its boundaries follow the boundary of the Ngorongoro Division of Ngorongoro District. It has also been believed to have been taller than the famous Kilimanjaro before its inactive volcano collapsed and formed unbroken caldera crater 610 meters deep, 13 (20 kilometers) wide about two million years ago.

The conservation area covers about 3,185 square miles (8,250 square kilometers) the crater covers about 100 square miles (260 square kilometers). It is also home to over 3000 different species including the endangered black rhinoceros; the crater has a forest and lake which support ecosystem in the park.

Everything about the Ngorongoro experience is designed to make your visit a real ‘holiday of a lifetime
