Ethiopian tour to the Historic Route and Omo Valley (Surface + Flight) – 16 days and 15 nights

DAY 1: Arrival Addis Ababa

up on arrival be meet by the staff of Off-Road Ethiopia Tour and proceed for city tour of Addis Ababa. Lunch break. Continue the city tour. O/n Dream Liner or Siyonat Hotel. ( B & D)

DAY 2 : Addis AbabaBahir Dar

After breakfast proceed driving to Bahir Dar. En route visit to the 13th century monastery of Debre-Libanos and admire the Blue-nil gorge that is comparable to the Grand Canyon in the USA. O/n home land hotel or Abay Minch lodge (B & D)

DAY 3: Bahir Dar

After breakfast take an hour flight in the morning to the city of Bahir Dar, presently acting as the capital for the Amhara people. Bahir Dar is set by the side of Lake Tana at an altitude of 1,830m. Above seas level. Up on arrival head for boat trip on lake Tana, the biggest Lake in Ethiopia to visit the island monastery of Ura Kidanemheret, which is the most colorful from the nearest available. After lunch break head to the breath-taking Blue Nile falls. (B & D). O/nHome land Hotel or Abay Minch Lode

DAY 4 :Bahir DarGonder

After breakfast head to Gondar. En route admire the scenery of the road. Up on arrival have lunch break and then continue to explore the 16th-17th century Castle compound and the bathing pool of King Fasilades constructed by King Fasilades and his successors. Also visit to the basket market of Gondar. Quara Hotel orToha Hotel ( B & D)

DAY 5 : GonderSimien National Park

Early in the morning drive from Gondar to Simien Mountains and en route visit to the Ethiopian Jews village at Weleka admire the scenic beauty of the road. Up on arrival in Sankaber, the head quarter, visit the colony of Gelada Baboon and also admire the breathtaking scenery of the surrounding. Simien Park hotel in Debark(B & D).

DAY 6 :Simien National Park-Lalibela

Drive from Simien Mountains to Lalibela via the Debre-Tabor road. En route visit to the Awramba people village and admire the most scenic part of the country that hosts chains of mountains. O/n Tukul villageor Mountain View Hotel (B & D)

DAY 7: Lalibela

After breakfast proceed to visit the first group of rock-hewn churches, which are 6 in number represent the earthly Jerusalem. Then after lunch continues to visit the remaining second group of churches which are 5 in number again and represent heavenly Jerusalem. And later conclude the visit by covering the third group of church, which is the cross-shaped and highlight of the Lalibela churches, St. George. O/n Village Tukul or Mountain View Hotel (B & D)

DAY 8 : LalibelaQAksum

Take the morning flight to Axum. Up on arrival proceed to visit the Stele filed, the Tomb of Kaleb and his son G/ Meskel, The stone inscription of King Ezana (4th Century king). Have lunch and proceed the sightseeing to Axum’s St. Mary of Zion Church, where the original ark of covenant given to Moses is believed to be, the ruined palace of Queen Sheba and Ezana’s stele park. O/n Remhai Hotel or Consular Hotel. (B & D)

DAY 9 : AksumQAddis Ababa-Awassa

Take the flight from Axum to Addis Ababa. Up on arrival meet the vehicles and drive to Awassa. En route visit the crater lakes in Debre-Zeit and admire the aquatic birds. Proceed driving and visit to the shallowest rift valley lake of Zeway and the birds around the shore of the lake and proceed driving to Awassa. Up on arrival have a walk in the newly bustling city which is currently acting as a capital to the Southern national and nationalities region. Also visit to the smallest Rift Valley lake of Awassa. O/n Lewi resort (B & D)

Day 10: Awassa-Arba Minch

After breakfast have a boat trip on Lake Awassa to visit the biggest open air fish market of Awassa and then drive to Arba Minch. Before getting to the town make a de tour to Chencha to visit the “Dorze” tribes known for their bamboo made bee-hive shaped houses and also the cotton woven clothing. Then back to Arba Minch. Overnight Paradise Lodge or Swaynes hotel (B & D)

Day 11: Arba Minch- Jinka

Take an early breakfast and continue the drive to Jinka, one of the relatively big Town in the Omo Valley. This will be a day to admire the spectacular topography which continues to descend down to the Omo and characterized by warm temperature. Before heading out to Jinka, have a boat trip on Lake Chamo to visit the crocodile market & Hippos. If the day falls on Thursday there will be a colorful market in Key Afer where one can have the chance to see different tribes such as the Ari and Bena. Overnight Jinka resort or Orit Hotel (B & D)

Day 12: Jinka-Mago-Mursi-Jinka

After an early breakfast in the hotel have a day excursion to the settlement of the Mursi people known for their lip plating, body decorating and stick fighting culture. Take time by having picture and personal contact with the people and back to Jinka. There is a picnic lunch en route. Overnight Jinka resort or Orit Hotel (B & D)

Day 13: Jinka- Turmi

After breakfast in the hotel drive to Turmi, a settlement for the Hamer people very much known for their colorful hair style and bull jumping tradition at times of wedding. The ladies normally are adorned by leather made skirts decorated by sounding pearls and by gleaming aluminum normally fixed to their neck. If the day falls on Saturday there will be a colorful market in Dimeka where one can have the chance to see the Hammer people Overnight Buska or Turmi Lodge (B & D)

Day 14: Turmi- Murulle-Turmi

After an early breakfast in the hotel head to Murulle, a settlement for the Karo people famous for their unique body decorating culture. En route have a picnic lunch. Start sightseeing in the villages and back to Turmi for overnight stay. Overnight Buska or Turmi Lodge (B & D)

Day 15: Turmi-Konso-Arba Minch

After breakfast head to Arba Minch. En route visit the other unique people of the Erbore tribe and their village. Up on arrival in the “Konso”, a settlement for the Konso people. Have lunch break and then go for sightseeing. The Konso with 9 different clans have a tradition of nominating their own King who has got his own Place to live and also servants to work for. He is a symbol of peace and integrity among the Konso with unique dynastical line going on for many hundreds of years. The Konso have a clean, well, built and protected villages with each village having a communal house of living called “Mora” where young boys spend the night protecting the village. They have also a tradition of age initiation for boys to advance from child hood to adult hood. The Konso are very much known for having a wooden made grave sign called “Waka”. Day 16, Arba Minch Addis Ababa

Drive from Arba Minch to Addis Ababa via the Hosanna Road. En route visit to the Gurage people village. The Gurage are known to be Ethiopian-Chinese as they are very hard working people who have controlled many of the economy in Trade. They have a custom of eating a traditional food called “Kocho” made out of false banana. Take time at the house and their back yard farm and learn from their culture. There is a lunch break at the town of Hosana. Have complementary traditional dinner with live cultural dancing show and be transfer out to airport for departure (B & D)
