Gastronomic Workshop in the Sierra

The geographic conditions of the Central Region of Portugal and the numerous convents existing, are responsible for a vast heritage of excellent desserts, wines and sparkling. “Ovos-moles” from Aveiro , “Pastéis de Tentúgal ( Montemor – o-Velho ) , “Pastéis de Lorvão” ( Penacova ) , “Pastéis de Vouzela”, are just some examples of sweet temptations you can taste, in this region .
Serra do Acor, much in demand by lovers of winter sports and by enthusiasts of wild fauna and flora, is full of secrets to discover: the biodiversity found in Buçaco Forest, planted by the Order of Carmelites, in the first quarter of the century XVII, expresses the heritage value of this magical space, with a long and recognized history, military, religious and from national identity . Carmelites Order also built the Convent of Santa Cruz Buçaco, where today we can visit the Palace Hotel Buçaco.

Tour to a renowned regional wine producer, where you will do a wine tasting served along with several regional delicacies.
Returned to the country house, the gastronomic workshop in Quinta da Palmeira’s kitchen will start and our Chef Mirjam will tell you some secrets of the modern Portuguese cooking. The course will have one theoretical and one practical component and all participants will have the opportunity to “get their hands dirty”. After the course, it will be served a wonderful dinner with especially selected wines.
The day will be spent in a wonderful walk to Fraga da Pena waterfall in Mata da Margaraça, in the heart of Serra do Açor, where you may have an outdoor lunch.
After this unforgettable moment with such exuberant nature, you will be welcomed by our Chef to continue the cooking course and, before the day is over, we will serve you another wonderful dinner in our restaurant, which will obviously be accompanied by the best wines.
Free morning (free activities). After lunch, there will be a guided tour to an excellent regional cheese-dairy where you can try sheep cheese, among others, as well as get to know the different stages of cheese maturation. After your return, Chef Mirjam will continue the cooking course, focusing on traditional dishes from Beiras. At the end of the course, once again, delight yourself with a wonderful dinner and an exceptional wine.
Visit the local market where you will be charmed with the traditional delicacies and you can also purchase some typical products. Then, there will be a visit to Buçaco’s Palace as well as to the wonderful Mata Nacional do Buçaco. However, before that nice walk, you will have the opportunity to try a regional delicacy, Leitão (little pig). Tonight there won’t be a cooking course but there will be a farewell dinner.
Leave in the morning/ afternoon. It is time to go back to routine but with a luggage full of knowledge and memories of different and unforgettable holidays. On the other hand, if are still not ready to leave, you can stay a bit longer and reserve a few more days and enjoy our company.
