Guided Visit to Baeza
Written By Andalucía Experiencias
Baeza, where the poetry turns into stone, a World Heritage City by UNESCO, of big artistic and cultural wealth, served as source of inspiration to the poet Antonio Machado.
The origins of Baeza began in the bronze age, hence its outstanding heritage, due to its monumental variety in which diverse cultures, periods and artistic styles are represented.
Our route will begin in the Square of the Lions (Plaza de los Leones) and after visiting the Butcher’s shops (Carnicerías) and the Civil Hearing (Audiencia Civil), we will cross the door of Jaen(Puerta de Jaén) to come to the Square of Santa Maria, center of the city, and key place of the patrimony of Baeza, where there is the Holy Church Cathedral of Baeza (Santa Iglesia Catedral de Baeza).
Along the promenade of the ramparts and with views of olive groves of the Guadalquivir valley, we will advance until we reach the square, which church bears its name, Santa Cruz, and represents some of the legends of the city of Baeza next to the majestic Palace of Jabalquinto. A must visit to the old University of Baeza finishing our walk through the arch of the bearded (Arco del Barbudo) which will lead us to the old Market Square, the neuralgic center of the city.
