GUIDED VISIT TO SACROMONTE AND ALBAYZIN.
Written By Andalucía Experiencias
We go to the Sacromonte neighborhood where you can enjoy a beautiful view of Granada and the Alhambra. The Sacromonte is a picturesque and idyllic place, on the outskirts of the urban center of Granada, home of the Gipsies of Granada. From India, they arrived in Spain in the fifteenth century, after wandering through Europe and Africa. Traditionally they lived in the famous cave-houses of this neighborhood which was portrayed with great mastery by the poet Federico García Lorca in his book “Romancero Gitano”. Next we will visit the old Muslim quarter. The Albaycín maintains the urban plot of the Nasrid period, with narrow streets that go down from San Nicolás, its highest area, to the course of the Darro River. We will contemplate the peculiar houses of the district called “Cármenes”, built in alleyways full of reservoirs where the water of the area was channeled and distributed. Like the wonderful views of the Alhambra and Sierra Nevada offered by this neighborhood declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
