Peak Me Languages, Spanish and Walking course in the Picos de Europa, Spain
Written By Admin
The Picos de Europa area was the first National Park to be created in Spain at the start of the 20thcentury. Consisting of a limestone massif rising from the northern coast the mountains reaching a height of 2648m.The area is not like the Spain most of us picture, the mountains are green with forests at the base containing a massive variety of flora and fauna.
Peak Me is a language school… with a twist. We run Spanish language courses mixed with hiking trips to the mountains. The week consists of 4 intensive classes in the morning or evening (depending on time of year), and then an excursion to the national park. The area is relatively untouched by tourism and has canyons, amazing peaks and loads of history. There are many caves with paintings in the area, some of which are 30,000 years old.
Panes is a town at the gateway to the Picos De Europa National Park, situated next to the river Cares in the base of a 600m valley. The town has a population of about 1000, which is small enough to feel cosy and large enough for a few excellent restaurants and bars. Spanish is the only language spoken in the town, making it perfect for learners… you’ll have to use your Español!!
