Phnom Penh History Tour
Written By Admin
If wondering what to do in Cambodia, this tour is the most reflective that we offer. We feel it is extremely important for visitors to understand the country’s recent dark history. Visiting these sites might not be for everyone however we do encourage you to do so as it gives you a greater understanding of how far Cambodia has come.
Itinerary
We begin the day with a visit to ‘Toul Sleng’ (S-21) prison which has become one of the main Phnom Penh attractions. The prison, once a regional high school has been turned in to a museum. The Khmer Rouge used the school to keep prisoners during their reign of power over the country. More significant however is the fact that it was used to torture inmates to extract confessions and names. Cambodian’s were kept here for a period of 4 years between 1975-1979, during which time an estimate 100 people per day were supposedly killed in the early part of 1975. What’s more, the conditions were supposedly some of the worst imaginable according to sources from those who had survived from the prison.
