Day1. Kaikoura – Few places in the world can boast of such natural wonders as those offered by land and sea in Kaikoura. Just stop by the road or walk down the beach and say hello to New Zealand fur seals, take a few photos of them in their natural habitat. (included*) Kaikoura offers the chance to watch whales, dolphins, sea-birds and many other species of marine life on a daily basis; by boat and by land. With wetsuits provided, visitors can even join dolphins and seals in the ocean (optional**$170pp). Or go whale watching with 80-95% success to see whales! (optional**$145pp With 80% refund if your tour does not see a whale.)
Day2. Abel Tasman – Enjoy the finest coastal National Park in the country. Take a walk on the world-famous Abel Tasman Coast Track. (included*) If you are enjoying Sea Kayaking, Abel Tasman National Park is the best place to do it! (included*) With a sheltered coastline, protected marine reserve, calm crystal-clear waters and stunning scenery, a sea kayak trip is sure to become one of your most memorable experiences. No experience needed! Or choose the Scenic Cruises day tour: The best views from comfortable seats around tables on upper and lower decks. Day3. Golden Bay – Before you lay eyes on Golden Bay, you’ll enjoy an amazingly scenic road journey. In this hidden corner of New Zealand you will experience many scenic contrasts; from smooth shifting sand dunes to rugged glaciated mountain valleys; from pristine seaside beaches to bubbling fresh water springs; from untouched high alpine meadows and forests to water-worn limestone caves, canyons and coastal cliffs. Feel the thrill – catch your own salmon! Anatoki Salmon Fishing & Cafe situated on the banks of the Anatoki River with a tranquil backdrop of native bush, you can relax and enjoy this unique experience. Entry is free, use of fishing rods and tackle is free, and we pay for the first 3 fish/group! We prepare your fish and hot smoking is available (ten minutes). Go for the catch of the day! You can have it for lunch on the picnic site or take your fish for dinner. No fishing experience needed! (included*)
Day 4. Punakaiki – it is best known for its Pancake Rocks and Blowholes – both of which are spectacular and a must-see when visiting the West Coast. Punakaiki is the centre for the Paparoa National Park – 30,000 ha of varied landscape from lush West Coast native rainforest and mountain tops, to expansive rugged beaches and coastline. Walk one of the many sub-tropical rainforest and coastal tracks. Explore one of the many unspoilt deserted beaches. (included*)
Day 5. Franz Josef Glacier – The Franz Josef Glacier offers visitors a rare opportunity to experience a dynamic glacial environment, in a temperate environment, while being within easy driving and walking distance from the main highway. (included*) Lakes, rainforests, surging waterfalls and the glacial rivers of ice mean that the area is an adventure and leisure destination that is ready to be explored. The best way to explore is the heli flight! (optional**$225pp) At night take a torch and look out for glow worms. This short walk is highly recommended! It leads through virgin lowland rainforests to visit glow-worms! (included*)
Day 6. Travel along the beautiful West Coast! Stop over at the most amazing places – 2000 years old swamp-forest, jade hunting on the beach, lush rainforests… The Wild New Zealand West Coast is magical! (included*) Wanaka – The crystal clear waters of lakes and rivers, the fresh mountain air, the stunning alpine views at each turn, nestled below towering mountains, Wanaka is the most tranquilly set of the South Island lakes. Scenic drive to Lake Hawea, Lake Wanaka (included*)
Day 7. Queenstown – it is often referred to as The Adventure Capitol of the World, with adrenalin-junkies thriving on a myriad of activities, including jet-boating, bungy jumping, rafting, high-country trout fly fishing, paragliding, alpine skiing, mountain climbing and wilderness hiking. (optional** booking and prices on request) Visit Kawarau Bridge – the World home of Bungy! (included*) Est. 1988 All we know is that AJ Hackett Bungy pioneered this crazy adrenalin activity called Bungy Jumping. Visit Arrowtown. (included*) Arrowtown is charming and quirky – a delightful gold rush village filled with rich heritage. Nestled below the beautiful peaks that surround the sparkling Arrow River. The settlement grew quickly as pioneers constructed cottages, shops, hotels and churches, more than 60 of which can still be seen today. A special highlight is the Chinese settlement at the edge of the river. Built by Chinese miners from 1868, this area of restored shelters and buildings paints a picture of earlier times. A sightseeing tour is a must. (included*)
Day 8. Milford Sound – Milford Sound is incredibly grand. It is truly spectacular. Visitors are drawn by the spectacular sights of waterfalls cascading from sheer rock faces rising 1,200 meters or more from the sea, lush rain forests clinging precariously to the cliffs, and the seals, penguins and dolphins that frequent the waters. With 182 days of rain every year, Milford Sound is one of the wettest places in New Zealand however the rain creates stunning treats for visitors with dozens of temporary waterfalls created both at Milford Sound and along the Milford Road.The Milford Road is a stunning alpine drive. Numerous viewing points and short walking opportunities en route, provide a chance to get out of the car and drink in the spectacular scenery and the sheer scale of the landscape. (included*) Milford Sound Scenic Cruises is highly recommended, cruise the full length (15 kilometers!) of the fiord on board one of the spacious, modern vessels. (included!!!*)
Day 9-10. Catlins Catlins (all activities are included*) – The Catlins is an amazing “lost world” . It is rugged, remote and endowed withlarge tracts of native rainforest. It has abundant wildlife, is sparsely populated and is very scenic and unspoilt. Here, close to the rich Sub-Antarctic feeding grounds, can be found some of the world’s rarest marine animals – also are the seabirds: Mollymawks, Shags, Gannets and millions of Titi. Varieties of sea birds are prolific and you may see (but must hear!) the forest-dwelling birds tui, bell-bird, fantail, native pigeon and the rare mohua. You may also be fortunate enough to observe yellow-eyed penguins. “Hunting” for New Zealand sea lion, fur seal and the Hector’s dolphin!
Day 11. Mt Cook National Park – Mount Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand, reaching 3,754 metres (12,316 ft). The park contains more than 140 peaks standing over 2,000 metres (6,600 ft) and 72 named glaciers, which cover 40 percent of the park’s 700 square kilometres (170,000 acres). Blue Lakes and Tasman Glacier walk. (included*) The lakes offer good swimming and can be reached by making a side trip off the main track. Walk from the Blue Lakes shelter and meander up to a viewpoint on the moraine wall to see the breathtaking views of the Tasman Glacier and the mountains at the head of the valley. Glacier Kayaking (optional**$145pp) is the ultimate way to experience the magnificence of this world famous national park. At over 750 metres above sea level you can become part of the environment, paddle beneath towering glaciated mountains and view the majestic glaciers and summit of the mighty Aoraki Mount Cook. The trips suit all levels of kayakers from beginners to experienced paddlers.
Day 12. Mt Cook – Christchurch – This morning marvel at Mt Cook, New Zealand’s highest peak. Scenic travel along Lake Pukaki, Lake Tekapo, sightseeing. (included*) Take a walk at the azure blue Lake Tekapo and enjoy the peace of this remarkable place and visit the Church of the Good Shepherd before arriving into Christchurch. Free evening in Christchurch.
