PROGRAM – ITINARY (3 NIGHTS / 4 DAYS)
Day 1. AIX EN PROVENCE AND CHATEAU LACOSTE
Arrival in Marseilles Provence airport in the morning.
Transfer to your hotel in Aix en Provence.
Walking guided tour of Aix-en-Provence historic center. Walk in paved streets filled with History. Discover Aix’s many fountains, gothic church, cathedral and private mansions. Stop at the famous painter Cezanne’s home and step into Saint Sauveur Cathedral. (duration: 1h00)
Tasting experience of local delicacy “calissons” in a traditional factory and chocolate in a prestigious chocolate maker workshop.
At 12:00 pm. Lunch at leisure downtown Aix-en-Provence.
At 2:00 pm. Audio guided visit of Granet Museum. Discover impressive collections of paintings by Ingres, Cézanne and Giacometti + temporary exhibits related to the 2013 Marseille – Provence, European capital for culture project.
At 2:00 pm. You will drive to Chateau Lacoste near Aix en Provence for a guided tour of the domain. Chateau Lacoste today is a place of wine, art and architecture. Since 2004, artists and architects from all over the world were invited to visit Château Lacoste and explore the beauty of the landscape.
They were encouraged to choose a place in the domain that spoke directly to them and were given the freedom to create something that would live there.
You will receive an introduction to all the steps of wine making and learn how organic principles are implemented at Château Lacoste. You will also have the opportunity to taste the white, red and rosé wines produced on the domain. (Duration: 2 hours)
Then you will have free time for a walk on your own around the art center and garden and admire the artwork of the domain, made by Jean Novel, Guggi, Louise Bourgeois, H.Sugimoto, A.Calder, etc… (A brochure about the site will be provided)
Overnight in Aix en Provence
Day 2. AVIGNON, SAINT REMY DE PROVENCE AND BAUX DE PROVENCE
At 9:00 am. The day starts with a first stop at the Pont du Gard aqueduct, one of the most beautiful Roman constructions in the region, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
This aqueduct is a Roman monument built in only 5 years halfway through the 1st century AD. It is the longest such aqueduct in the world – 360 meters long (1,180 ft.), 50 meters high (164 ft.), 3 levels of arches.
At 10:30 am. You will head to Avignon, an historic fortified city, for a guided tour of the papal city, Saint Bezenet bridge and the Popes palace. The pope’s palace is both a powerfull fortresss and a magnificient palace. This exceptional monument recognized as UNESCO World heritage was the seat of Christian world in the 14th century. The visit of the palace allows discovering 24 areas: ceremonials rooms, chapels, cloister and the private papal apartment.
At 12:30 pm. Lunch at leisure in Avignon (Not include in the tour)
At 2:00 pm. Guided tour of famous Glanum archaeological site in Saint Rémy de Provence. Discover Gallo roman ruins. A brochure will be provided for the visit.
At 3:30 pm. Then you will be transferred to Baux-de-Provence village to admire the panoramic view from the remains of Baux de Provence castle. Audio-guided visit of the castle.
Time on your own to visit the village, museum of “santons” (figurines) and Saint Vincent church well known for its stained glass windows.
Overnight in Avignon
Day 3. FONTAINE DE VAUCLUSE, GORDES AND ROUSSILLON
At 9:30 am. The day starts with a visit of the village of Fontaine de Vaucluse, renowned for its water wheels and for its mythic spring after which the village is named.
At 11:00 am. Guided tour of the old Cistercian Abbey of Sénanque before you head to picturesque Gordes village and the Saint Firmin palace. At 12:30 am Free time to have lunch at leisure (not included in the tour).
At 1:30 pm. In the afternoon, visit of the medieval village of Gordes, classified as the most beautiful French village for its paved streets. At 3:30 pm You will then be taken to the Roussillon village perched atop a rock formation, from where you will have a stunning view on what we call the “Provençal Colorado”.
You will then be taken to Okhra, the conservatory of colors. From there you will have a stunning view on the “ocres’ and what we call the “Provencal Colorado”.
Overnight in Marseilles
Day 4. PARIS
Transfer to Marseilles airport or station.
