Day by Day Programme
Day 1 – Instruction and Training:
Transfer from the airport and arrival in the district of Adazi in Alderi. You will have the chance to settle into the guesthouse before a safety briefing. You will enjoy at least three hours of riding in Adazi.
Day 2 – Amata River (Karli – Ligatne via Amata river):
In the morning you will head to the starting point for the Amata river route. Amata is one of the most gorgeous and fastest rivers in Latvia. Today is dedicated to exploring and discovering the beauty of one of the deepest and most interesting valleys in Vidzeme. The Amata riverbanks feature Devonian red sandstone cliffs reaching heights of up to 45m. There are also dolomite banks with panoramic views near Zvartes rock, Lustuzis and others.
Zvartes rock is one of the most famous rocks near Amata due to its age (more than 350 million years) as well as its beauty and the folk lore relating to it. According to the tale, the rock used to be a meeting point for witches. On celebration days they rushed to the rock on brooms from the surrounding pine forests. The route along Amata will continue until you reach the river Gauja, before continuing along it. If you are a fan of exciting rides then you will definitely enjoy crossing the Ligatne river and visiting the basements cut in the rocks on the riverbanks.
There is also the possibility to attend Ligatne Nature Park with wild animals or the secret Soviet Bunker lying 9m underground.
Day 3 – Crossing the Gauja (Ligatne – Raiskums via Guaja river):
Today you will ride along the beautiful riverbanks of Gauja from both sides before riding through wild forests of the national park, experiencing the relatively untouched nature of the area. The day continues by crossing the Gauja river on a historical wooden ferry and then riding on the other side.
Day 4 – Kvepene (Raiskums – Cesis via Kvepene):
On the way to Cesis you will continue along the riverbank and through the wild forests, seeing Kuku rock along the way. The rock is the highest Devonian rock outcrop with a height of 43m. You will ride on the Kvepene Hill fort surrounded by a fairytale landscape. You might get to see an impressive giant tree – a Kvepene Oak that is symbolically drawn on the 5 lats banknote of the local currency.
Day 5 – Vaidava Lake (Cesis – Vaidava via Strike river):
Your group will gallop to the Red Rocks near Gauja where you will freshen up with spring water. The route today heads upwards along the streams of the river Strike and its beautiful pine valley to Vaidava Lake.
