This is a Self-drive accommodated safari inclusive of zero excess 2×2 air-conditioned Toyota Corolla vehicle hire, vehicle drop off fee, accommodation in 3 star lodges, chalets or guest houses on the meal basis stated, route map & 24 hour support.
The highlights include:Cape Town, Hermanus, Oudtshoorn, Knysna, Tsitsikamma, Port Elizabeth.
Days 1 – 3: Cape Town
Land at Cape Town International airport and pick up your hire car to drive to your guest house in Tamboerskloof.
This small and intimate guest house is located in Cape Town’s Tamboerskloof suburb. Use the detailed map and directions included in your information pack to navigate. The rooms are stylishly and individually decorated and the central facilities include a lounge and dining room. Leisurely health or full English breakfasts are served on the veranda or in the dining room. Parker Cottage is within walking distance of the City Centre and some of Cape Town’s finest Restaurants are just around the corner. The famous V&A Waterfront is a few minutes’ drive from Parker Cottage
During your stay relax and enjoy this cosmopolitan city, visit the many museums, art galleries & markets or explore Robben Island and the beautiful Kirstenbosch Gardens. A trip up to Table Mountain is a must! Breakfast included.
Days 4 & 5: Stellenbosch
You have a short drive today through picturesque scenery to the town of Stellenbosch, South Africa’s premier wine producing region.
This quiet guest house is located in the centre of the beautiful university town of Stellenbosch, the heart of the wine region and an area which offers an abundance of birdlife, historic farmhouse, vineyards and mountain views. All of the five guest rooms are spacious and equipped with remote control TV, phone, mini-bar, coffee & tea making facilities, hairdryer and safe. Heaters and electric blankets are also provided for winter. Safe parking is provided, and a swimming pool and braai area provide a relaxing area in which to enjoy your stay.
We recommend a guided wine tour through the vineyards of this beautiful area to enable you to enjoy the many opportunities for wine tasting! Breakfast included.
Days 6 & 7: Hermanus
Today you have a scenic drive along the coast to Hermanus, the whale watching capital of South Africa. The best time for seeing the many whales which come to calve in these waters is from mid June to November. During this time, the whales often come within metres of the shore and sightings are spectacular. The Auberge Burgundy is a lovely guest house overlooking the ocean with a swimming pool, quiet rooms and a restaurant next door offering superb seafood and a relaxing ambience. Walks along the coastal pathways are lovely, and there are many clean and peaceful beaches nearby.
The Fernkloof Nature Reserve hosts an amazing variety of the endemic Fynbos species, don’t miss the carpets of colourful fynbos which cover this steep sided valley, the view of the ocean from the hiking trails is spectacular! Breakfast included.
Day 8: Oudtshoorn
You will drive further up the beautiful Garden Route today, and inland a short distance to Outdshoorn. This area is well known for ostrich farming and is also close by to the Cango Caves. Located 13km out of the town of Oudtshoorn, this lodge operates as a working ostrich farm and is situated en route to the renowned Cango Caves.
This cosy, country style retreat is a haven of peace and tranquillity, set in the captivating surroundings of Schoemansport, at the foothills of the majestic Swartberg mountain range. Each room is equipped with fan & heater, and central facilities include a TV lounge, swimming pool, BBQ facilities & walking trails. This is the perfect place to relax and spend some time enjoying the inland beauty of the Garden Route. Dinner & breakfast included.
Days 9 & 10: Knysna
A short drive will bring you back to the coast and to the historic town of Knysna with remnants of ancient forest and a peaceful lagoon. You will stay at the Graywood Hotel, a beautiful hotel made of timber and with a swimming pool. The Graywood, a sister hotel to the Log-Inn, Knysna, offers affordable & comfortable rooms in the heart of this beautiful and historic town.
Just 350m from the centre of town and the Knysna Quays Waterfront, the hotel offers 49 en-suite timber log rooms all offering air conditioning, satellite TV & electronic safe. Central facilities include a bar and secure parking. Dinner can be arranged at the Log-Inn restaurant, situated just across the road. Knysna offers many optional activities including the famous steam train, walks and activities in and around the lagoon.
Days 11 & 12: Tsitsikamma
A little further from Knysna is Tsitsikamma, a tranquil area of forest, ocean front and sparkling mountain streams. You will stay at the Tsitsikamma Lodge, situated at the foot of the mountains and surrounded by lush gardens. The cabins are built from solid wood built within stands of huge shady trees. Spectacular mountain views and a luxurious open-plan interior with spa-bath create a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Each cabin also has its own TV, phone, tea & coffee facilities, BBQ and private deck. In addition, the luxury cabins feature a lounge with fireplace, mini-hi-fi and bar fridge allowing guests to truly unwind in this beautiful wilderness. The central restaurant offers home-cooked meals, a games room & cosy lounge, and the swimming pool provides a great place to relax during warm afternoons.
There are many walks which can be taken from the lodge, and other activities such as black water tubing, tree-top canopy tours, abseiling, boat cruises, mountain bike trails, scuba diving, snorkelling or a marine tour through the Tsitsikamma National Park can be arranged. Many pristine wilderness areas are within close driving distance. Breakfast included.
Day 13: Port Elizabeth
