Day 2: Moray, Salineras and Ollantaytambo
Your guide and driver will meet you in the morning for departure for the Sacred Valley.
The archaeological site of Moray is thought to have been used for agricultural research by the Incas.   These concentric stone terraces constructed within naturally-occurring depressions are impressive, and offer great views of the Sacred Valley and the snow-capped peaks that surround it.   At Moray we will begin a pleasant hike to the Salineras, a complex series of spring-fed, terraced salt pans, build into a steep mountainside.  You will most likely observe locals preparing the pans and harvesting salt in the traditional manner.  Their mountainside location provides amazing views of the valley and Urubamba River below.
From the Salineras, we will break for a picnic lunch, before continuing the picturesque town of Ollantaytambo.  Active canals run along Inca constructed stone-paved streets and passageways, and many original stone buildings remain in use today.   After exploring  the town itself,  we will climb to the ruins directly above.   You will have the evening free in Ollantaytambo where we will spend the night, and is a convenient departure point for the 2D/1N Inca Trail hike to Machu Picchu the following morning.

Day 3: Inca Trail

Your guide will meet you at your hotel in the morning for a hike along the world famous Inca Trail.  From Ollantaytambo you will travel with your guide by train to kilometer 104, the point of entry for the official Inca Trail.  During the hike we will visit the Inca ruins of Wiñaywayna and break for lunch, then continue on to the Sun Gate, or Inti Punku.  At Inti Punku we will enjoy our first views of Machu Picchu from above. In the late afternoon we will descend to the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will check into our hostal for the evening and enjoy dinner in a local restaurant before resting for our visit to Machu Picchu the following day.

Meals: B, L, D

Day 4: Machu Picchu

After an early breakfast in Aguas Calientes we will walk or take a bus to Macchu Picchu. We will start our visit with a 2-3 hour guided tour , which will provide an introduction to the most important and impressive locations at the archaeological site.  Early morning is quieter at the ruins, and we will be able to enjoy the beauty and the magic of Machu Picchu before most visitors arrive. After your tour you will have free time to explore on your own, climb Huayna Picchu (additional charge, and entry must be purchased in advance) or visit the beautiful Temple of the Moon.  We will meet in the afternoon in Aguas Calientes for a late lunch and our return train to Ollantaytambo.

Meals: B, L

Day 5Chichubamba, Pisac and Sacsayhuaman

In the morning we will depart for the community of Chichubamba, just outside of Urubamba.  Community members here have organized a series of workshops in their homes, where you will learn about a variety of traditional skills and crafts.  Options include pottery, chicha making, bee keeping, cuy (guinea pig) raising, agriculture, weaving and more.  You will participate in your choice of two workshops before continuing on to the town and ruins of Pisac.  In Pisac we will tour the ruins, then descend to the local market.  You will have the option to browse the stalls and sample local foods, before breaking for a picnic lunch.

After lunch we will make our way to the stunning ruins of Sacsayhuaman, located above the city of Cusco.  On the way we will stop at an Awanacancha,  home to llamas and alpacas, and where we can learn a little about local spinning and weaving traditions.  At Sacsayhuaman we will tour the beautifully-carved stone ruins and enjoy panoramic views of the city before continuing on to your Cusco hotel.

Meals: B, L
