Day 1-2. Catlins (all activities are included*) – Scenic travel from Christchurch. The Catlins is an amazing “lost world” . It is rugged, remote and endowed with large tracts of native rainforest. It has abundant wildlife, is sparsely populated and is very scenic and unspoilt. Here, close to the rich Sub-Antarctic feeding grounds, can be found some of the world’s rarest marine animals – also are the seabirds: Mollymawks, Shags, Gannets and millions of Titi. Varieties of sea birds are prolific and you may see (but must hear!) the forest-dwelling birds tui, bell-bird, fantail, native pigeon and the rare mohua. You may also be fortunate enough to observe yellow-eyed penguins. “Hunting” for New Zealand sea lion, fur seal and the Hector’s dolphin! Cathedral Caves adventure on Waipati Beach! These grand imposing caves are soar to more than 30 meters overhead. Take your flashlight as they interconnect in total darkness almost 100 meters inside the main entrance. The shy native blue penguins and rare but curious blinking large-eyed fur seals are often seen in the total darkness far back in the recesses of these caves. The walk passes through the podocarp and kamahi forest of the Waipati Beach Scenic Reserve. The caves can only be reached for an hour, either side of low tide.
Day 3-4. Queenstown – it is often referred to as The Adventure Capitol of the World, with adrenalin-junkies thriving on a myriad of activities, including jet-boating, bungy jumping, rafting, paragliding and alpine skiing. (optional** booking and prices on request) A sightseeing tour is a must. (included*) Visit Kawarau Bridge – the World home of Bungy! (included*) Est. 1988 All we know is that AJ Hackett Bungy pioneered this crazy adrenalin activity called Bungy Jumping. Over 20 years later AJ Hackett Bungy is stil delivering amazing Queenstown experience with 100% safety record!
The BEST New Year’s Eve party int the party town of New Zealand!… (on 28th Dec 2013 – 3rd Jan 2014 tour!) New Year’s Eve goes off with a bang each year in downtown Queenstown with a spectacular lakeside fireworks display, live music and parties in the streets. An excellent line-up of entertainment has been booked, live bands for the main stage, DJs to entertain and a spectacular firework display to light up the night sky and bring in 2014 with a cheer.
Day 5. Fiordland – Ancient rainforest clings impossibly to the mountains; waterfalls tumble hundreds of meters into massive fiords shimmering lakes and granite peaks look the same today as they did a thousand years ago… Fiordland National Park is the largest national park in NZ and one of the largest worldwide. (1.2 million hectares) Visit Te Anau Wildlife Centre and get up close and personal with some of Fiordland’s wildlife. (included*) Fiordland is home to a wonderful variety of native birds, whose habitat ranges from the rugged mountain and forest environments to the wild west coast seashore. Discover the wilderness by 3 hours walk on the famous Kepler Track. (included*) The track wanders through mountain beech forest with some great river views. Some scenes in the Lord of the Rings movies were filmed near this part of the river.
Day 6. Milford Sound – Milford Sound is incredibly grand. It is truly spectacular. Visitors are drawn by the spectacular sights of waterfalls cascading from sheer rock faces rising 1,200 meters or more from the sea, lush rain forests clinging precariously to the cliffs, and the seals, penguins and dolphins that frequent the waters. With 182 days of rain every year, Milford Sound is one of the wettest places in the world, however the rain creates stunning treats for visitors with dozens of temporary waterfalls created both at Milford Sound and along the Milford Road. The Milford Road is a stunning alpine drive. Numerous viewing points and short-long walking opportunities en route, provide a chance to get out of the car and drink in the spectacular scenery and the sheer scale of the landscape. (included*) Milford Sound Scenic Cruises is highly recommended, cruise the full length (15 kilometers!) of the fiord on board one of the spacious, modern vessels. (included*)
