1st Day Arrival in Romania
Arrival in Bucharest. Meet your English speaking guide and transfer to Azuga resort, where we are accommodated in a 3* pension housed by the Rhein Wine Cellars. The Rhein Wine Cellars date from 1892, and used to be the wine supplier of the Romanian royal family. They are also the oldest cellars where the Champaign method sparkling wine is produced continuously ever since the cellars settlement. We will visit the cellar and we will have a special home made dinner with wine tasting.
2nd Day Azuga – Sinaia – Bran – Brasov – Miclosoara
Drive across the mountains to Sinaia, named the “Pearl of the Carpathians”. Visit the famousPelesCastle, an exquisite piece of architecture, with its art and armoury collections etc. The Castle served as the summer residence of the Romanian Royal family. Drive on to Bran to visit the famous medieval castle built as a fortress – The “Dracula’s” Castle – for the citizens of Brasov in 1377, with view to defend the city. Prince Vlad used the Castle as a general headquarters during his incursions inTransylvania . For many years, it has been an interesting medieval art museum. We will have the opportunity to cook and discover the traditional Romanian cuisine in a local guesthouse in Bran. Arrival in Brasov, formerly Kronstadt, founded by the Saxon colonists. Walking tour through the old town centre, including the BlackChurch, the Council Square, the Hirche House, the baroque style buildings from the Austro-Hungarian times. In the afternoon transfer to Miclausoara village. Here we are accommodated in Count Kalnoky’s Guesthouses. These guesthouses date back to the 1800, although part of them are much older, as indicated by the presence of medieval shooting embrasures. The buildings have been carefully restored in order to preserve their original Transylvanian charm and character. They are beautifully furnished with antiques in the Transylvanian Szekler and Saxon style. Dinner with Szekler specialties and wine tasting.
3rd Day Miclosoara – Fagaras – Sibiel
After breakfast, drive to Sibiu throughout Fagaras, a medieval citadel built in the vauban style. Arrival in Sibiu, of the oldest towns in Transylvania – formerly Hermannstadt – founded by the Saxon colonists. Guided walking tour of the medieval town (the Main Square, the EvangelicalChurch, the Liars’ Bridge etc.). Lunch in a local restaurant. Drive to Sibiel, the village which was awarded the prize “Pomme d’Or by FIJET. Visit the Museum of Icons. Dinner and accommodation in a local guesthouse in Sibiel.Opportunity to cook your own dinner assisted by the guesthouse’s owners. Before the dinner, carriage ride in Sibiel, a perfect moment to discover this unique place.
4th Day Sibiel – Cozia – Curtea de Arges – Bucharest
Road to Curtea de Arges, the first Capital of Walachia. Drive along the picturesque OltValley to Cozia Monastery (the 14th century) a Byzantine monument, with its magnificent collection of icons on glass (the 17th and 18th cent.), church built by Vlad Dracul’s grandfather, Mircea the Old, on the shore of the river. Stop at Curtea de Arges where we visit the 16th century church, the place where the Romanian king are buried. Lunch in a local restaurant. Drive to Bucharest, the Romanian capital. Sightseeing tour, including the most interesting sites in Bucharest, like The Parliament’s Palace, also known as The People’s House, the second largest building in the world, after Penthagon, The Revolution Square, The Opera Square, Victoria Ave and the Triumphal Arch. Walking tour in the old city to discover all the medieval ruins and all the amazing streets that reminds us of the old Paris. Walking tour in the old city of Bucharest. Dinner in the most famous restaurant in Bucharest. Overnight in a 4 stars hotel.
5th Day Departure
In the morning, visit the Parliament Palace, built 1984 – 1989, the second largest building in the world, after Pentagon, with unique marble decorations, wooded sculptures made of rare essence, also. Lunch in a local restaurant. Visit the VillageMuseum, the largest open air museum in Europe. Transfer to the airport. End of our services.
